~1 min readYour job is ultimately to help create growth.
That means understanding the customers the business wants to win, finding intelligent ways of getting in front of them and turning marketing activity into conversations, opportunities and pipeline.
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership naturally.
You shouldn’t need a detailed brief for everything you do. We want someone who can understand the commercial objective, work out what needs to happen and move.
- Create momentum rather than wait for it
- Prioritise what will have the biggest commercial impact
- Take campaigns from idea through execution to measurement
- Work closely with Sales rather than operate as a separate marketing function
- Make sensible decisions without always having perfect information
- Test ideas, learn quickly and change direction when something isn’t working
- Measure success through outcomes rather than simply marketing activity
- Be comfortable personally creating the work when required
- Spot problems and opportunities without waiting for somebody else to point them out
We’re not expecting perfection. We are expecting ownership.
You’ll probably have experience in B2B marketing, ideally within fintech, SaaS, financial services technology or another complex B2B environment.
- Built and executed campaigns
- Generated demand or contributed to pipeline
- Worked on account-based marketing
- Partnered closely with a B2B sales team
- Turned complicated products into simple propositions
- Written strong commercial content
- Used data to decide what is and isn’t working
- Built landing pages, email campaigns or sales collateral
- Used AI or automation to increase your output
- Taken something from an initial idea through to a measurable result
Start-up or scale-up experience would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
What matters more is whether you actually enjoy that kind of environment.
We’re particularly interested in marketers who see AI as considerably more than a tool for rewriting LinkedIn posts.
How can AI improve research?
How can it help personalise campaigns?
How can you analyse markets and accounts faster?
What can you automate?
How can one strong marketer produce the output that previously required several people?
You don’t need to arrive with every answer, but you should be curious enough to keep asking those questions.
This role probably isn’t right for someone whose career has predominantly involved managing agencies or delegating execution to a large marketing team.
- Prefer brand marketing without commercial accountability
- Need highly detailed briefs before starting work
- Are used to having specialists available for every marketing discipline
- Prefer strategy considerably more than execution
- Measure success mainly through posts published, emails sent, or campaigns launched
- Need several layers of approval before making decisions
- Want a clearly defined boundary around everything that sits inside your job description
- Need someone else to constantly set your priorities
- Prefer a heavily structured corporate environment where every week looks similar
Equally, this isn't a Head of Marketing job disguised as a Marketing Manager role where you'll be expected to manage a department for £50k.
There is no department to manage.
The opportunity here is to be the person actually doing, testing, improving and building.
Within your first few months, you should understand the market, product, customers and commercial priorities well enough to independently drive marketing activity.
- Stronger engagement from priority accounts
- Consistent, focused B2B campaigns
- Better alignment between Marketing and Sales
- Clearer positioning and messaging
- Marketing contributing visibly to commercial pipeline
- AI and automation increasing the quality and volume of output
- Decisions being driven by data and evidence
- Opportunities being identified and acted on without constant intervention
Ultimately, leadership should feel that marketing is genuinely owned.
- Stage 1: Application screening
- Stage 2: 25-minute practical marketing exercise
- Stage 3: 20-minute verification call
- Stage 4: In-person final interview
Because for the right marketer, the lack of layers is the opportunity.
You’ll have access to leadership, exposure to the commercial side of the business and far more freedom than most Marketing Manager roles offer.
You can test things. You can build things. You can challenge things.
And if something works, you’ll be able to see the connection between what you did and what happened next.
The package is £50,000 plus share options, allowing you to participate in the future success of the company.
If you’re currently sitting inside a larger organisation thinking, “I could do so much more if somebody would just let me get on with it,” this could be exactly the kind of role you’ve been looking for.
