FDI Services Inc. is currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Planner / Coordinator to join our team at the City of Edmonton's Waste Management Facility, located in Edmonton, Alberta. The Successful Candidate will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and assets. This role works closely with operations, maintenance, and reliability teams to develop work plans, manage maintenance backlogs, and optimize resource utilization while minimizing downtime.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Develop detailed maintenance job plans, including labor, materials, tools, and safety requirements.
- →Plan and schedule preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- →Maintain and prioritize maintenance backlog in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- →Coordinate weekly and shutdown maintenance schedules with operations and maintenance teams.
- →Ensure work is properly scoped before scheduling.
- →Act as a liaison between maintenance, operations, and external contractors.
- →Coordinate equipment availability for scheduled maintenance activities.
- →Monitor ongoing jobs to ensure adherence to schedule and adjust as necessary.
- →Support execution of major shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages.
- →Industrial/plant environment (may include noise, dust, or outdoor work)
- →Combination of office-based planning and field coordination.
- →Identify and order required materials and spare parts.
- →Work closely with procurement and stores to ensure parts availability.
- →Validate BOMs (Bill of Materials) and maintain equipment records.
- →Ensure tools, equipment, and resources are allocated efficiently.
- →Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- →Analyze equipment history and failure trends to improve maintenance strategies.
- →Collaborate with reliability and engineering teams on continuous improvement initiatives.
- →Support root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and corrective action tracking.
- →Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- →Incorporate safety procedures and risk assessments into job plans.
- →Support safety audits, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
- →Strong understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO), rotating equipment safety, and safe work procedures.
- →Continuously improve planning processes and maintenance efficiency.
- →Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, job plans, and equipment history.
- →Experience with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo, Infor, JD Edwards, or similar).
- →Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and manuals.
- →Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques (vibration, thermography, oil analysis) is an asset.
- →Bearing identification, removal, installation, and replacement on rotating equipment.
- →Experience working with hydraulic systems.
- →Competent rigging skills, including safe lifting practices, sling selection, load balancing, and use of hoists and lifting devices.
- →Precision measurement and alignment using micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, and laser alignment tools.
- →Vibration analysis basics for identifying bearing wear, imbalance, and equipment misalignment.
- →Shaft and housing inspection, fit-up verification, and troubleshooting mechanical failures.
- →Knowledge of lubrication practices, contamination control, and preventative maintenance procedures.
Requirements
~1 min read- Red Seal Mechanic OR Millwright or equivalent certification.
- 3–10+ years of maintenance experience in industrial, manufacturing, mining, or oil & gas environments.
- Previous experience in maintenance planning or coordination strongly preferred
- Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
- Previous experience in supervisory or lead roles.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
