Our Merchandise team works with supplier partners and store teams on category ranging, buying, pricing and promotions so we can get the right products on the right shelves at the right time for our customers.
About the Role
~1 min readReady to grow your category management career? As our Assistant Category Manager, Frozen, you’ll join a collaborative team made up of a Category Manager and two Category Assistants, working across a large and growing category.
From frozen vegetables and poultry to tenders, frozen meals and ice cream, you’ll help manage the products customers find throughout the frozen freezer aisle across PAK’nSAVE, New World and Four Square.

Support the Category Manager to plan, organise and operate the frozen portfolio, aligning priorities and measures with the wider company strategy.

Review range, pricing and promotional performance to identify opportunities and improve category outcomes across our three banners.

Manage product, pricing and promotional activity while ensuring key deadlines and store requirements are met.

Build effective relationships with suppliers, stores and teams across Foodstuffs North Island.

Contribute to category planning, forecasting, supplier negotiations, merchandising, range management and product positioning

We’re looking for someone with food industry experience, or experience from a similar fast-moving commercial environment, who is keen to grow and develop as an Assistant Category Manager. You’ll be curious, commercially minded and ready to build your capability within a broad, high-profile category.

Experience in the food industry or a similar commercial environment, with exposure to category management, buying, merchandising, ranging, sourcing, pricing or promotions.

Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to identify trends and turn information into practical recommendations.

Confidence using Microsoft Excel, ideally including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables and data analysis.

Clear communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers, stores and internal teams.

A proactive and curious approach, with the drive to learn, develop and deliver quality work in a fast-paced environment.
