Staff Machine Learning Engineer

We are seeking an exceptional Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our organization. Garner’s Engineering team tackles incredibly hard technical problems for a mission that truly matters. Our systems analyze billions of medical records to rank healthcare providers across the country. We are an AWS + Kubernetes shop, and we are constantly introducing new technologies as our system load doubles every year. We expect our engineers to champion cutting-edge industry practices as we aggressively embrace AI in every facet of our operations and norms. We are seeking teammates who take pride in delivering their best work while fostering a strong team culture.

This role will be based in our New York City office (in the Financial District). You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. 

• →Lead team-level technical strategy and execution on multi-quarter time horizons
• →Use AI to build, optimize, and maintain ML, data, and software systems
• →Uplevel engineers across the organization by raising the technical barCollaborate across disciplines to understand our domain and iterate on projects
• →Protect our users’ privacy and security through best practices

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, especially with ML systems
• 2+ years of MLOps experience
• Experience leading teams of engineers with demonstrated impact on technical strategy
• A generalist software engineering mindset ready to learn new languages, frameworks, and techniques required for a fast paced startup environment
• Demonstrated ability to build complex systems using AI coding agents (we use Claude Code)
• Familiarity with data security and HIPAA compliance
• A desire to be a part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback
