GoFundMe is the world’s most powerful community for good, dedicated to helping people help each other. By uniting individuals and nonprofits in one place, GoFundMe makes it easy and safe for people to ask for help and support causes—for themselves and each other. Together, our community has raised more than $40 billion since 2010.

Join us! The GoFundMe team is searching for our next Manager, Data Engineering to lead a data engineering team and own delivery for a critical portfolio within our Data Platform organization. This role is accountable for translating business priorities into a clear roadmap and well-managed backlog, establishing owners and deadlines, and delivering measurable outcomes predictably. You will build strong relationships across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Privacy, and business teams; proactively manage risks and dependencies; make clear trade-off decisions; and hold the team accountable for commitments. You will also hire, coach, and develop engineers while partnering with Staff+ engineers and architects on technical direction. Success will be measured by business value, dependable execution, team health, and a secure, scalable data platform that supports reporting, analytics, AI/ML, and product use cases.

  • Partner Cross-Functionally: Build strong relationships across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Privacy, and business teams to translate business needs into clear priorities and execution plans.
  • Own the Roadmap, Backlog & Outcomes: Partner with data product management to build the team’s roadmap and backlog, connecting priorities to measurable business outcomes and tangible value.
  • Drive Delivery & Accountability: Set clear owners, milestones, and deadlines; hold the team accountable for commitments; and communicate progress and decisions transparently.
  • Lead, Grow & Manage Performance: Hire, coach, and develop a high-performing team through regular feedback, 1:1s, performance management, and meaningful career development.
  • Manage Risks & Dependencies: Proactively identify and resolve delivery risks, cross-team dependencies, resource constraints, and blockers before they affect outcomes.
  • Make Prioritization & Trade-Off Decisions: Partner with data product management to balance business value, urgency, platform health, risk, and team capacity; make tough trade-offs and clearly explain the rationale.
  • Establish an Effective Operating Rhythm: Define goals and success measures, maintain a healthy backlog, review delivery and operational metrics, and continuously improve how the team works.
  • Deliver Dependable Data Products: Ensure the team delivers trusted, reusable, and well-governed data products that support reporting, analytics, AI/ML, and product experiences.
  • Ensure Quality, Governance & Reliability: Set expectations for data quality, privacy, security, lineage, documentation, operational readiness, and sustainable support.
  • Partner on Technical Direction: Work with Staff+ engineers and architects to align technical decisions with business priorities, delivery constraints, and long-term platform strategy.
  • Manage Platform Health & Investment: Balance new delivery with reliability, scalability, cost effectiveness, technical debt, and the investments needed to keep the platform dependable.
  • Improve Team Efficiency with AI: Champion responsible use of AI tools and agents to improve planning, development, documentation, operations, and team productivity.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build trust, align diverse stakeholders, navigate conflict, and communicate priorities, trade-offs, and outcomes clearly.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or related fields, including at least 5+ years directly managing data engineers or platform teams.
  • Track record of driving predictable delivery, establishing clear ownership and deadlines, and holding teams accountable for commitments.
  • Demonstrated success building strong relationships with product, engineering, analytics, data science, privacy, and business stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of hiring, coaching, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams.
  • Strong judgment in prioritization, resource allocation, risk management, dependency management, and making difficult trade-off decisions.
  • Strong data engineering experience and hands-on technical leadership across data architecture, modeling, ETL/ELT, batch and streaming pipelines, orchestration, and scalable distributed systems.
  • Ability to guide design and delivery using SQL, Python, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake or BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD—stepping in when needed to review designs, troubleshoot issues, and unblock the team.
  • Working knowledge of data governance, quality, privacy, security, lineage, compliance, reliability, and cost management.
  • Experience using goals, delivery and operational metrics, and continuous-improvement practices to improve execution; familiarity with responsible use of AI tools in engineering teams.
  • Make an Impact: Be part of a mission-driven organization making a positive difference in millions of lives every year.
  • Innovative Environment: Work with a diverse, passionate, and talented team in a fast-paced, forward-thinking atmosphere.
  • Collaborative Team: Join a fun and collaborative team that works hard and celebrates success together.
  • Competitive Benefits: Enjoy competitive pay and comprehensive healthcare benefits.
