Role Description
The Business Analyst - Release Excellence (AI Native) is an individual contributor within the PMO who helps make software releases more predictable, measurable, and ready for execution. You turn release data into clear insight, strengthen governance, improve recurring workflows, and give leaders and delivery teams a trusted view of readiness, risk, dependencies, and performance.
You will work across PMO, Product, Engineering, QA, DevOps, Support, and other stakeholders to improve how release information is captured, analyzed, reported, and acted on. You will use approved AI and automation tools where they create practical value - accelerating analysis, reporting, monitoring, and workflow execution while keeping validation and human accountability explicit.
You own the planning and governance layer of the release lifecycle - master release calendars, deployment scope, cut-over coordination, readiness reviews, release metrics, and release documentation - bridging development, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders so updates ship safely, predictably, and with minimal downtime. This is not a release-engineering or engineering/product development role. You will not own software builds, deployment scripting, CI/CD engineering, source-control administration, or final production go/no-go decisions; you prepare and facilitate those decisions and coordinate rollback and incident follow-through with the accountable technical owners.
Key Outcomes
-
Release leaders and delivery teams have a timely, accurate, and consistent view of release readiness.
-
Risks, issues, dependencies, approvals, and exceptions are visible early and tracked to resolution or escalation.
-
Release metrics and dashboards are trusted, repeatable, and useful for decisions.
-
Manual reporting and governance administration decline through practical automation and AI-assisted workflows.
-
Release processes become more consistent through data-driven analysis, clear requirements, and measurable improvement actions.
-
AI-assisted outputs are validated, secure, appropriate, and traceable before operational use.
Roles & Responsibilities
-
Maintain accurate release-governance data across milestones, scope, readiness criteria, risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, approvals, exceptions, and action items.
-
Build and maintain the master release calendar, document deployment scope, and coordinate cut-over windows and branching decisions across multiple cross-functional teams.
-
Coordinate Go/No-Go readiness reviews and change and technical review boards (CRB/TRB) - assembling evidence, tracking entry and exit criteria, capturing decisions, and publishing outcomes - while final approval authority remains with accountable owners.
-
Map technical dependencies ahead of each release, confirm rollback and contingency plans are documented and agreed with engineering, and coordinate triage and follow-through when deployments fail or post-release defects surface.
-
Track release health metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and mean time to restore, and drive continuous-improvement actions from the resulting trends.
-
Maintain the release documentation set - deployment instructions, release notes, runbooks, disaster-recovery and rollback references, and cross-team status communications.
-
Build and maintain release dashboards, readiness views, recurring reports, and analytical summaries that provide clear visibility into delivery health and release performance.
-
Analyze readiness trends, schedule movement, defect and quality signals, dependency aging, exception patterns, deployment outcomes, and other release indicators to identify emerging concerns and improvement opportunities.
-
Prepare evidence for release-readiness reviews, governance checkpoints, and leadership discussions. Organize facts, open items, risks, and decision needs without assuming final approval authority.
-
Track cross-team dependencies and unresolved blockers, identify aging or execution gaps, and support timely escalation to accountable owners.
-
Partner with Release Excellence leadership and cross-functional teams to define metric definitions, reporting standards, data-quality rules, readiness criteria, and governance artifacts.
-
Document current-state processes, identify bottlenecks and recurring manual work, and translate findings into clear business requirements, workflow changes, acceptance criteria, and measurable improvement actions.
-
Support release retrospectives and recurring operational reviews by synthesizing data, themes, root causes, actions, and follow-through.
-
Use approved AI tools to accelerate reporting, summarization, risk sensing, dependency analysis, and process analysis. Validate outputs against trusted source data before use.
-
Identify repeatable PMO and release-governance activities that can be automated or converted into controlled workflows, including reminders, evidence collection, approval tracking, status preparation, and recurring reporting.
-
Maintain decision logs, governance records, and audit-relevant documentation, so release activity is traceable and accessible.
-
Partner with technical teams to understand release signals and constraints while preserving the role boundary between business analysis and technical release engineering.
-
Communicate clearly across technical and business audiences, surfacing facts, tradeoffs, risks, and required decisions in a concise and actionable way.
-
Contribute to the Release Excellence operating model by improving standards, templates, measures, workflows, and governance practices over time.
