Reports to: Director of Patient Care Services
Job Summary/Objective:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the inpatient floor is responsible for delivering essential patient care and support. Duties include taking vital signs (TPR), assisting with personal care such as feeding and bathing, maintaining intake and output records, and collecting specimens. The CNA supports nursing staff and contributes to patient well-being by assisting with daily activities and performing minor cleaning tasks as needed. State certification required.
Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with personal hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide daily care tasks such as feeding, positioning, and mobility assistance.
- Take and document vital signs accurately in patient charts.
- Monitor and record patient intake and output as directed by nursing staff.
- Collect specimens such as urine, stool, or sputum as requested for laboratory testing.
- Maintain clean and organized patient rooms, assisting with minor cleaning tasks.
- Assist with patient ambulation, transfers, and positioning to support patient mobility and reduce fall risk.
- Communicate patient needs and any observed changes to the appropriate nurse promptly.
- Help maintain an environment that ensures patient safety, comfort, and privacy.
- Support department operations by organizing supplies, stocking rooms, and preparing equipment as necessary.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Skills / Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Ability to adhere to confidentiality and privacy regulations.
Education, Certificates, and License:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- State certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), active or within 30 days of hire
Experience:
- Previous experience as a CNA in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly lift or move patients or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling throughout the shift.
- Ability to assist patients with physical tasks and handle equipment safely.
