The Department of Mathematics wishes to appoint a fixed-term Assistant Professor to cover the learning and teaching commitments of a staff member who has been awarded a research fellowship. This new Teaching Staff member will be expected to add to the successful team already active in MACS, and to take on the responsibility of delivery, assessment and development of Mathematics courses.

The post holder will be based at our Edinburgh Campus.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be required to:

  • develop and deliver high quality teaching in the mathematical sciences
  • develop and roll out efficient assessment
  • contribute fully to global teaching teams
  • carry out such administrative and promotional activities as may be required to achieve the above aims

The Department of Mathematics is part of the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, which also includes the Departments of Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics and of Computer Science. The School is strongly oriented towards high quality undergraduate teaching, research, and advanced postgraduate programmes.   • E1: A PhD in mathematical sciences.
  • E2: Experience in teaching mathematics and developing pedagogy-inspired teaching methods
  • E3: Potential to provide leadership in the planning, organisation and development of learning and teaching activities in Mathematics
  • E4: The skills to supervise undergraduate and MSc projects
  • D1: Experience in a pastoral role towards undergraduates
  • D2: Experience in BSc and MSc project supervision
  • D3: Experience in technology-enhanced learning methods
