Job Description
The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical, mental, and social well-being of employees in the workplace. The role focuses on delivering occupational health services, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety regulations, providing immediate medical assistance, implementing wellness programs, and supporting a safe and healthy working environment.
The Occupational Health Nurse serves as the primary healthcare provider within the organization, handling medical emergencies, employee health monitoring, occupational illness prevention, and health education initiatives while collaborating closely with management, employees, safety officers, and external healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Health Management
- Conduct initial health assessments and routine medical evaluations for employees.
- Monitor employees' health conditions and fitness for work.
- Administer first aid treatment and provide basic healthcare services for work-related and non-work-related illnesses and injuries.
- Assess employee symptoms and recommend appropriate medical action or referrals.
- Maintain and update employee medical records with strict confidentiality.
- Monitor employees with chronic illnesses or medical restrictions and coordinate necessary workplace accommodations.
Occupational Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Assist in implementing workplace health and safety programs aligned with government requirements.
- Coordinate annual physical examinations (APE), pre-employment medical examinations (PEME), and other mandatory health screenings.
- Support workplace inspections and identify health-related hazards or risks.
- Participate in accident investigations and prepare incident/illness reports.
- Monitor workplace sanitation, hygiene, ergonomics, and environmental health conditions.
- Collaborate with Safety Officers and HR in promoting a safe work environment.
Emergency Response & Medical Assistance
- Respond promptly to workplace medical emergencies and provide appropriate care.
- Coordinate emergency transportation and referrals to hospitals or medical facilities when necessary.
- Maintain clinic readiness, emergency medical supplies, and first aid equipment.
- Develop and support emergency preparedness and response procedures.
- Assist in disaster preparedness initiatives and emergency drills.
Health Programs & Employee Wellness
- Develop and implement employee wellness and health promotion programs.
- Conduct health awareness seminars and wellness campaigns.
- Provide health counseling on nutrition, stress management, mental wellness, smoking cessation, and disease prevention.
- Support vaccination programs and health surveillance activities.
- Promote mental health and employee well-being initiatives.
Case Management & Documentation
- Manage sick leave monitoring, return-to-work assessments, and medical clearances.
- Coordinate with physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers regarding employee medical cases.
- Prepare medical reports, clinic utilization reports, and health trend analyses.
- Ensure accurate documentation of treatments, incidents, and employee consultations.
- Maintain compliance with data privacy and medical confidentiality standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage clinic operations and medical inventory.
- Monitor medicine and medical supply availability and expiration dates.
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers and insurance/HMO representatives.
- Assist HR with attendance monitoring related to medical concerns.
- Support health-related audits and accreditation requirements.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid professional license.
- At least 3–5 years of nursing experience, preferably in occupational health, corporate clinic, manufacturing, construction, industrial, or healthcare settings.
- Experience handling workplace emergencies and employee health management is preferred.
- Experience in occupational safety and health compliance is an advantage.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH)
- Occupational Health Nurses Association of the Philippines (OHNAP) training
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
