Human Computer Lab is building robots that feel alive and responsive. We are a fast-paced and focused team, with the goal of pushing the frontier of human-robot interaction by making technology more legible, emotionally intuitive, and intentional.

We're looking for a mechanical engineer to design the mechanisms and components that define how LeLamp moves, feels, and is manufactured. You will be responsible for designing and delivering production-ready mechanical parts and assemblies for robotic systems, with a strong focus on rapid prototyping through 3D printing. You will work closely with hardware and software teams to integrate mechanical systems with electronics, and take designs from early prototyping through to manufacturing.

This role spans mechanism design, plastic part development, and system-level integration.

  • Design, iterate, and release production-ready mechanical parts and mechanisms with a strong emphasis on rapid prototyping through CAD and 3D printing.

  • Manage tolerances and maintain alignment across CAD models, BOMs, drawings, GD&T, and assembly instructions throughout the design lifecycle.

  • Conduct detailed analysis and testing of new designs, diagnosing and resolving any mechanical or electrical issues.

  • Integrate mechanical systems with actuators, sensors, fasteners, and electronics into cohesive robotic assemblies.

  • Support simulation-to-real transfer by keeping CAD models, URDF, and physical builds tightly synchronized.

  • Develop injection-molded components from concept through tooling and sampling

  • Prepare drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation

  • Collaborate with vendors through production release

  • Maintain clear revision history, supporting clean documentation for handoff to fabrication, assembly, or external vendors.

  • Have a background in robotics, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.

  • Have strong experience with CAD tools such as Onshape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar.

  • Have experience in designing mechanical systems for robotics or electromechanical products and manufacturability, and hands-on prototyping with 3D printing and physical assemblies.

  • Have experience with embedded systems or microcontrollers and can integrate them into mechanical systems.

  • Have strong fundamentals in kinematics, dynamics, and mechanism design.

  • Have experience with FEA or simulation tools and know when to validate through testing.

  • Understand tolerance stack-up across moving assemblies

  • Have experience working with URDF or maintaining simulation models for robots.

  • Think holistically about the entire system and approach complex problems with creative, outside-the-box solutions.

  • Absolutely love and are passionate about building and experimenting with hardware.

  • Move quickly and can do rapid iteration cycles.

  • Take ownership over the systems they design and build, and are curious, resourceful, and motivated to solve difficult problems.

  • Are comfortable jumping into unfamiliar systems and can create order through chaos.

  • Care about users and feel ownership over outcomes, even for systems you don't own.

  • Work well in small, collaborative teams.

  • Consider not just what immediately works, but how the consumer will engage with the robot.

The early team becomes the DNA of the company. We set ourselves and others to a high standard, and we respond with kindness when things get hard but keep everyone accountable. This requires us to be curious, creative, and diverse in our thinking and approach.

We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. Even if you don’t meet every single requirement, we encourage you to apply. Studies show that women and underrepresented groups often hold back unless they meet 100% of the criteria - we don’t want that to be the reason we miss out on great talent.
