Seasonal Lawncare and Landscape Maintenance Worker

The Seasonal Lawncare & Landscape Maintenance Worker is responsible for mowing, trimming, edging, and horticulture bed maintenance.

A Day In The Life:

• Performs mowing, trimming and edging in various locations within the city parks, ditches, right of ways and overpasses. Performs minor maintenance in equipment (wash, grease, sharpen blades, and check/change tires).
• Performs planting of flowers, grass, roses, shrubs, and trees according to instructions and planned design of landscaped areas. Prepares soil for planting and plants various trees, shrubs, and flowers. Prunes flowers, roses, and shrubs and performs weeding, transplanting, and thinning of plants as necessary.
• Assists in the application of fertilizers and pesticides. Performs forestry related duties, planting trees, watering trees, and prunes and/or removes limbs, branches and trees that have been damaged by adverse weather conditions or in accordance with regularly scheduled maintenance plans. Cuts grass with mowers and weed eaters.
• Operates a variety of hand tools, power equipment, and machines in accordance with accepted safety standards. Cleans, maintains, and performs light repair work on tools, equipment, building and grounds operated by the Parks & Facilities Department. Picks up trash in the pars areas and disposes of it properly.
• Operates a variety of gardening tools and equipment including but not limited to sprayers, mowers (60'' to 11 feet wide) string trimmers, chain saws, loppers and hedge trimmers.
• Performs all other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

What You'll Need For Success:

• Education - High School Diploma or GED is not required.
• Experience - One or more years of similar or related experience is preferred.
• License - Must posses a valid Kansas driver's license
• Other - Must be at least 16 years of age.

This is a seasonal position and is not KPERS covered.
