- First 3 Months:
Become comfortable with check-in and check-out processes while learning additional department functions and workflows. - By 6 Months:
Demonstrate proficiency in most job functions and confidently support day-to-day operations with minimal assistance. - By 12 Months:
Fully competent in all responsibilities, acting as a knowledgeable and dependable resource within the department.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Facilitate smooth and efficient patient flow from arrival through departure in a professional and courteous manner
- →Perform patient check-in and check-out, ensuring accurate demographic and financial data
- →Manage Pools, Faxes, and the Bump List (patient rescheduling list)
- →Schedule appointments and gather appropriate medical and insurance information
- →Validate and enter charges accurately and collect required payments
- →Explain department and hospital policies, procedures, and charges to patients
- →Answer incoming calls and appropriately route patients and visitors
- →Collaborate closely with physicians, clinical staff, and other departments to support coordinated patient care
Requirements
~1 min read- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks based on urgency in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both patients and coworkers
- Professional, patient-centered approach to customer service
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to support team goals
- Medical office or healthcare registration experience preferred, but not required
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Previous experience in a healthcare or medical office setting preferred
- Ability to learn, understand, and retain medical coding concepts; familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred
- Ability to interpret insurance information accurately; knowledge of clinical practices and medical terminology preferred
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
