Responsibilities

The National Associate Executive Vice President, Field Development serves as a key member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for shaping the future direction, growth, and effectiveness of the Association's field fundraising strategies, campaigns, and revenue-generating initiatives nationwide.

 

Reporting to the National Executive Vice President, Development and Community Health, the National Associate Executive Vice President provides strategic leadership for the American Heart Association's field fundraising portfolio, driving growth across core campaigns, fundraising innovation, field integration, donor engagement, and sponsorship development. This role partners with leaders across the organization to advance enterprise priorities, strengthen fundraising effectiveness, and position the Association for continued revenue growth and mission impact.

 

 

  • →Establish and lead the long-term vision, strategy, and operational direction for the American Heart Association's field fundraising portfolio, driving sustainable revenue growth and mission impact nationwide.
  • →Provide executive leadership for core fundraising campaigns, fundraising innovation strategies, and emerging revenue opportunities that strengthen the future of field development.
  • →Partner with executive leadership to develop and implement enterprise-wide fundraising priorities, business strategies, and growth initiatives that significantly influence organizational performance and outcomes.
  • →Direct the execution and continuous improvement of national fundraising programs, campaigns, events, and development operations to maximize effectiveness, scalability, and impact across all markets.
  • →Lead the identification, development, and implementation of innovative fundraising models, products, engagement strategies, and business opportunities that drive future revenue growth and market expansion.
  • →Champion field integration efforts that strengthen alignment across regions, departments, and fundraising initiatives while enhancing organizational effectiveness and consistency.
  • →Oversee the strategic development and delivery of consulting, training, and support resources that strengthen field execution and elevate fundraising performance throughout the organization.
  • →Utilize donor insights, participant feedback, market intelligence, and industry best practices to inform strategy development, investment decisions, and organizational priorities.
  • →Drive innovative approaches to donor, participant, volunteer, and sponsor engagement, including the use of technology, analytics, and multi-channel strategies to strengthen relationships and outcomes.
  • →Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key volunteers, sponsors, donors, corporate partners, and external stakeholders to advance mission and revenue objectives.
  • →Lead and develop a team of senior fundraising leaders responsible for campaign strategy, performance analysis, business planning, product development, market support, and organizational growth.
  • →Oversee significant organizational resources, including revenue accountability, budgeting, strategic investments, and operational priorities.
  • →Represent the Association as a national leader and ambassador for field fundraising, helping advance the organization's reputation, influence, and mission impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Twelve (12) years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, business development, revenue growth, or related fields.
  • Ten (10) years of experience leading and developing managers, senior leaders, and high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing large-scale strategic initiatives that drive organizational growth, revenue performance, and measurable results.
  • Experience leading complex, multi-functional organizations, programs, or portfolios with significant financial, operational, and strategic responsibility.
  • Proven ability to influence executive leadership, boards, volunteers, donors, corporate partners, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Experience developing innovative fundraising, business development, or revenue-generation strategies.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including experience managing budgets, revenue performance, strategic investments, and organizational resources.
  • Experience leading organizational change, transformation initiatives, and cross-functional collaboration efforts.
  • Deep understanding of donor engagement, fundraising operations, participant experience, sponsorship strategy, and relationship management.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to assess market trends, industry best practices, donor insights, and business opportunities to inform strategic decision-making.

 

  • Experience leading large, national fundraising programs or large-scale multi-market initiatives.
  • Experience as an executive leader within a complex nonprofit, healthcare, membership, or mission-driven organization.

 

  • Ability to travel approximately 25% - 50%, including occasional overnight travel.

What We Offer

Salary minimum to the midpoint of the range is $233,200.00 to $315,900.00. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials may apply to the pay range. This position is eligible for an incentive plan. The American Heart Association reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range.
