Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

As part of the Nexus & Solutions program, IOM Cameroon implements strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the links between humanitarian action, development and peace. To provide a practical learning environment for students and/or recent graduates while enhancing its operational capacities, the Nexus & Solutions unit is seeking an intern to work in-person with the team in Yaoundé.

 

  • Assist in providing support to programme activities, including strategic input, document streamlining, coordination support, logistical and administrative support, and programme management related backup. 

  • Participate in internal and external meetings with relevant stakeholders, including government authorities, UN agencies, development partners and private sector actors, supporting with the preparation, note taking, archive filing, among other key tasks. 

  • Support the documentation and reporting of programmatic activities, including basic data collection, stakeholder mapping, contact database management and other programmatic support tasks. 

  • Assist in organizing events, workshops and coordination meetings related to electoral assistance, durable solutions, and peace initiatives. 

  • Support the unit in identifying funding opportunities and contribute to the preparation of project proposals and concept notes. 

  • Assist in the management of consultancies and IP partners with product evaluation and review input, as well as adequate administrative and financial follow up. 

  • Support the facilitation of relationships with key ministries (MINHDU, MINEPAT, MINAT) and other government partners. 

  • Contribute to the documentation of best practices, lessons learned and project results. 

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Nexus & Solutions Team. 

  • Any other duties that may be assigned.

TRAINING COMPONENTS AND LEARNING ELEMENTS

  • Experience working in an international multicultural environment within the United Nations system.

  • Gain organizational, management, and international cooperation skills.

  • Develop understanding of the humanitarian-development-peace nexus approach and its practical applications.

  • Learn about project management, stakeholder coordination and partnership development in the context of migration and development.

  • Exposure to high-level engagement with government authorities, UN agencies and development partners.

 

EDUCATION

  • Minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent, or Graduated in the last 12 months;
  • In International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Project Management, Social Sciences or related fields..
  • Experience in institutional relations (any level) and contact with government authorities and relevant stakeholders
  • Exposure to document drafting and public facing writing
  • Any prior experience with development aid organizations such as NGOs, international organizations, or the United Nations would be advantageous.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in institutional relations (any level) and contact with government authorities and relevant stakeholders

SKILLS

  • Solid understanding of the Cameroonian Political landscape and connected dynamics, as well as ministerial and institutional competence areas
  • Familiarity with policy development processes and document management
  • Knowledge of database management for stakeholder management
  • Proficiency in MS Windows-based packages/applications and website management experience.

Languages 

Fluency in English and in French (oral and written)
