Headquartered in College Park, Maryland, IonQ has operations in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Washington, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Our quantum computing services are available through all major cloud providers, while we also meet the needs of networking and sensing customers across land, sea, air, and space. IonQ is making quantum platforms more accessible and impactful than ever before.

We are looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join our Reliability Engineering team at IonQ. In this role, you will be responsible for finding, root-causing, and permanently resolving electronics  and control hardware issues on our operational trapped-ion quantum computers, contributing to the team's mission of improving fleet uptime and driving down the operational cost of our commercial and development systems.

You'll play an important part in owning the full lifecycle of electrical reliability fixes — from identifying a real-world bottleneck through to standardizing the resulting fix into every future build — working closely with Operations, Science, Manufacturing, and Engineering to keep our quantum systems running reliably and effectively.

To be successful, you will need strong foundations in analogue, RF, and mixed-signal electronics design, experience with the Altium PCB toolset, familiarity with RF concepts and confidence working directly on operational hardware under time pressure. We're looking for someone who can translate a system-level reliability problem into a concrete engineering solution, work across Operations, Science, and Engineering to get it deployed safely, and document it so it sticks. You'd be a great fit with:

  • Analogue and mixed-signal electronics: strong practical experience designing and debugging op-amp circuits, low-noise amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC modules, grounding, shielding and common digital interfaces.
  • Altium design control and documentation: strong experience managing evolving schematics and PCB designs in Altium, producing clear technical documentation, and establishing effective review, ERC/DRC, release and change-control processes.
  • Fault-finding and electrical integration: able to diagnose power supplies, analogue circuits and control electronics, and develop reliable PCBs, adapters, connectors, breakout cables and harnesses.
  • Stakeholder engagement and delivery: able to gather requirements, explain technical issues and trade-offs across different disciplines, and take solutions through testing, deployment and documentation.
  • Bonus: familiarity with LVDS and FPGA-based control electronics, cryogenic or RF/microwave systems, and Python-based test automation or telemetry.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Our benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401(k), unlimited PTO and paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment.
