The Cherry Arts Inc. Production Associate (PA) is an off-campus role exclusively for students who qualify for Federal Work Study (FWS). This role calls for a creative, flexible, organized person who can work regular in-person hours. The Cherry is a multidisciplinary arts facilitator and creator in Ithaca, NY, curating our flexible venues: the Cherry Artspace, Cherry Gallery, and Camilla Schade Studio.
The Cherry is embedded in the heart of Ithaca's West End and is focused on being of service to its community. We aim to make all of our programming accessible through self-selected sliding scale ticket prices for all our events; free tickets for the low-income residents of the Arthaus, a community which includes young people recovering from homelessness; community outreach through our funded Open Arts Hives and other free community events; and the Cherry Gallery, which is open to the public.
Job DescriptionThis role is great for anyone interested in learning more about and/or working professionally in theatre and other performing arts, visual arts, or in arts for social change and community growth. We are looking to engage an individual who is reliable, has a strong work ethic, and believes in the arts and their power to create change in the community it serves.
No specific prior experience is required, but a strong work ethic and reliability is a must. If you are excited about learning about what makes a venue work, then we are a great match for you! Duties and Responsibilities- Assisting with our Open Art Hive and other community outreach events
- Assisting the Events & Exhibitions Manager with technical and production needs (including manual labor, such as lifting and some set building)
- Assisting the Marketing Manager with tasks, including making social media posts and distributing printed materials around Ithaca
- Assisting the Executive & Artistic Director and Gallery Interns with visual art installation and gallery curation
- Box office and Gallery staffing (requires evening hours on specific dates, to be scheduled)
- Performing light facilities maintenance (i.e. general maintenance, including painting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, trash and recycling of all spaces)
- Assisting the General Manager in management of ticketing and membership database
- Occasionally providing production assistance in rehearsals
- Supporting Arthaus community events, such as the Art Hives and other activities
- Running local errands, if transportation is available
It is expected that you are available for at least two 3–4 hour shifts per week, with one shift taking place during normal business hours. Some weekend and weekday evening shifts are required. We will set a weekly work schedule with you, and attendance at scheduled shifts is a requirement.
