Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00; occasional evenings/weekends as needed


Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical services and assists physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Makes independent decisions in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists and instructs students. Supervises other positions.


Additional Department Summary: Provides clinical services for University Medical Center Resident Clinics. Uses independent decision making in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Assists physicians within their specific scope of expertise. Works to improve efficiency, organization, and patient/clinic flow. Assists with day-to-day operations, resolves issues, and contributes to the improvement of quality of care, as well as patient and provider satisfaction. Supports quality improvement and accreditation initiatives.

Performs advanced population health and care management functions, including comprehensive assessments to identify gaps in care and barriers to improved outcomes. Support sand facilitates completion of Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs). Develop, implement, and monitor patient-centered care plans in collaboration with providers and care teams. Coordinate care across the continuum and serve as a clinical resource for patients, families, and providers; Ensure appropriate referrals, follow-up care, and continuity of services.

Follows all established clinical procedures and workflows for patient care and communication, privacy/security, and other regulatory requirements. Partners with the enterprise services division of the college, including Health Informatics, Medical Billing, Medical Records, and others to ensure patient billing and documentation are complete and accurate.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Nurse Practitioner Certificate and two (2) years of nursing experience. Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Alabama in good standing.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent clinical, organizational and administrative skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively with student patients, faculty, staff and other health care professionals. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment. Desire to exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions. Ability to maintain strict confidentially of protected health information and follow HIPAA regulations at all times.


Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the area of family medicine. Population health and care management experience. Experience providing support/coordination for quality improvement and accreditation initiatives.
