This role is responsible for managing the availability, performance, security, and resiliency of critical database environments across Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. You will work across on-premises infrastructure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and AWS, with a strong focus on disaster recovery, cloud migration, and performance optimization. The position offers broad technical ownership across production, staging, and development environments. You will play a key role in maintaining reliable backup and recovery strategies, resolving complex incidents, and ensuring database environments remain operational and resilient. Collaboration with application, infrastructure, cloud, and client teams will be an important part of the role. This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced DBA who thrives in technically demanding, fast-paced production environments.
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will take ownership of database administration, disaster recovery, performance, cloud operations, migrations, and ongoing production support across multiple database technologies.
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Oracle 11g/12c/19c/21c and Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 across production, staging, and development environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance.
- Manage database security, user roles, privileges, and access controls.
- Design, configure, and maintain disaster recovery solutions using Oracle Data Guard, including Physical and Logical Standby, and SQL Server technologies such as Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, and Mirroring.
- Conduct regular disaster recovery drills, failover and switchover testing, and document RTO/RPO compliance.
- Troubleshoot replication lag, synchronization problems, and disaster recovery incidents.
- Manage and support databases hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, including Base Database Service, Exadata Cloud Service, and Autonomous Database where applicable.
- Handle OCI database provisioning, backup configuration, patching, monitoring, networking, storage, and security requirements.
- Perform SQL query tuning, execution plan analysis, index optimization, and instance-level performance tuning across Oracle and SQL Server.
- Monitor and optimize memory, I/O, wait events, and other database and infrastructure-level performance factors.
- Proactively identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
- Perform database cloning using RMAN Duplicate, Data Pump, and SQL Server backup/restore-based approaches.
- Execute regular database refreshes between production, UAT, and development environments, including data masking where required.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Oracle DB Links and SQL Server Linked Servers for cross-database and cross-platform connectivity.
- Manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and native SQL Server backup and restore tools, validating recovery readiness.
- Support database migrations from on-premises environments to cloud, cloud-to-cloud migrations, and migrations between SQL Server and Oracle where required.
- Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, disaster recovery runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and client teams on database-related requirements and initiatives.
- Participate in on-call and rotational production support as needed.
Requirements
~2 min readThe ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on DBA experience across both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, combined with strong disaster recovery, cloud, performance tuning, and troubleshooting expertise. You should be comfortable taking independent ownership of critical database initiatives while collaborating effectively with technical and client-facing teams.
- 9+ years of hands-on database administration experience with strong expertise in both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing disaster recovery solutions such as Data Guard, Always On, Log Shipping, or equivalent technologies.
- Working knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for database hosting and management.
- Strong expertise in database performance tuning at the query, instance, and infrastructure levels.
- Practical experience with database cloning and database refresh processes.
- Strong understanding of database links, linked servers, and cross-platform database connectivity.
- Solid knowledge of backup and recovery technologies, including RMAN and native SQL Server backup and restore.
- Good understanding of database security, patching, and upgrade methodologies.
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-resolution skills, particularly in production environments under pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and client teams.
- Ability to independently own and drive disaster recovery and performance initiatives.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced production-support environments.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to prioritize effectively during critical incidents.
Nice to Have
