This role supports the development, maintenance, and optimization of financial applications and the data interfaces that connect them.
You will translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions while contributing to application support, data engineering, and system improvements.
The position combines SQL development, data integration, production support, performance optimization, and financial systems expertise.
You will collaborate closely with technical leads, architects, Finance business teams, IT groups, cybersecurity, audit, and other stakeholders.
The role also involves working within Agile practices, development standards, change controls, and software lifecycle processes.
You will troubleshoot complex production issues, improve system performance, and contribute to both incremental fixes and broader architectural enhancements.

Learn and maintain a strong working knowledge of supported financial applications, their data flows, integrations, and interfaces to provide effective development and production support.
Translate business requirements into technical specifications and develop reliable solutions that meet functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and established development standards.
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot data solutions using SQL Server and related technologies, including SQL queries, SSIS, SSRS, and scheduled jobs.
Participate in Scrum, Kanban, stand-up meetings, planning activities, code reviews, design discussions, and other Agile development practices.
Collaborate with technical architects and team members to create and maintain appropriate technical documentation, ensuring traceability and alignment with best practices.
Monitor production environments with technical experts, investigate performance issues and system defects, and implement improvements ranging from targeted fixes to larger architectural changes.
Support the management and stability of non-production environments while ensuring appropriate change controls, internal controls, and other governance requirements are followed.
Analyze system functionality, data flows, business processes, and production incidents to identify root causes, resolve issues, and uncover opportunities for process or system improvements.
Develop and execute unit testing based on tickets and acceptance criteria, ensuring solutions are fit for purpose before promotion.
Assess and prioritize feature requests by balancing business value, technical effort, risk, and available resources.
Work across IT, Finance, cybersecurity, audit, business units, vendor teams, and other stakeholders to deliver effective and well-coordinated solutions.
Contribute to performance monitoring, tuning, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across financial systems.
Maintain strong communication and transparency with technical leads and management, escalating issues appropriately and keeping stakeholders informed of progress and risks.
Continue developing technical expertise through internal and external training, new technologies, and evolving data engineering and financial systems practices.
Provide occasional travel to New Jersey when required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, combined with approximately 2–6+ years of experience working as a Data Developer, Data Engineer, or in a comparable technical role.
Hands-on experience with SQL Server and related technologies, including SQL queries, SSIS, and SSRS.
Experience with source control and version management tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Stash, or comparable platforms.
Foundational understanding of data integrity, governance, architecture, extraction, manipulation, storage, and data mining.
Experience with job scheduling technologies such as SQL Server Agent or AutoSys.
Familiarity with DevOps concepts, CI/CD practices, and associated tools.
Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical specifications and understand how technology solutions support financial processes such as accounts payable and general ledger activities.
Understanding of software development lifecycle and basic project management principles.
Experience with Microsoft Office and strong analytical capabilities.
Additional experience with technologies such as C#, VB, .NET, UiPath, Python, XML, JSON, or Azure is preferred but not required.
Ability to troubleshoot production issues by analyzing system behavior, data flows, functionality, and underlying business processes.
Strong communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
Self-directed and proactive approach, with strong time-management skills and the ability to manage changing priorities and competing deadlines.
Understanding of vendor-based applications and APIs, performance monitoring, system tuning, internal controls, traceability, and technical best practices.
Ability to assess technical requests based on business value and implementation effort, while maintaining a focus on quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
Familiarity with insurance industry concepts is desirable, along with experience in data warehouses or data marts.
Additional experience with databases such as Oracle, Snowflake, Sybase, MongoDB, or NoSQL platforms is advantageous.
Familiarity with BI tools such as SSAS, Tableau, Power BI, OneStream, Crystal Reports, or Business Objects and ETL platforms such as Informatica is desirable.
Knowledge of Agile principles, Scrum, Kanban, Jira, and Confluence is preferred, as is experience working across multiple time zones or with employees and contractors.
