Job Description


Kepler is looking for a dedicated Scholarships Guidance Counselor to serve. As a Scholarships Guidance Counselor at Kepler, your role encompasses providing comprehensive guidance and counseling services not only to students seeking full scholarships but also to those who have already been admitted on full scholarships. You will be a crucial resource in supporting students at every stage of their academic journey, from application to successful completion, ensuring they make the most of their opportunities. This position requires a deep understanding of scholarship opportunities, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for empowering students to thrive academically and professionally.


Responsibilities and deliverables

  • Collaborate with Iteme and the Registrar's office to ensure a successful admission of students on scholarship.
  • Assist Registrar’s office and scholarship students to sign and record Scholarship agreement letters.
  • Provide orientation to new students on scholarships.
  • Provide educational guidance for students in the program; explain the model and be there as a sounding board and student advocate.
  • Help students problem-solve when they encounter challenges and make referrals to other staff or services as needed.
  • Review, propose and create new policies, procedures and documentation for scholarships at Kepler/Kepler College.
  • Conduct one-on-one check in sessions, small groups, and scholarship workshops with students.
  • Collaborate with Kepler academic advisors and other departments to support students to recognize and achieve their educational goals.
  • Maintain accurate and updated records of students’ progress and challenges.
  • Plan discussions about links between education and employment opportunities with students.
  • Assist scholarship students in setting employment goals for internships and post-graduation.
  • Prepare monthly reports that include data, a narrative history of student success, and development phases, recommendations for program improvement both to Kepler/ Kepler College and Partners.
  • Support the enrollment of students onto the Article26 BackPack platform.
  • Disseminate scholarship opportunities for refugees and other marginalized communities in Rwanda.
  • Work on issues related to transitions to the workplace for students and graduates.
  • Support in Humanitarian events and special initiatives.
  • Participate in meetings with partners to advocate for refugees and  other marginalized communities ’ access to tertiary education.
  • Represent Kepler at external events and advocate for refugee rights and opportunities.
  • Work with the Kepler Student Guild Association (SGA) to organize seminars, workshops, and events that would expose refugee students to the world outside the campus.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the supervisor


Qualifications and eligibility

    • A BA degree graduate (Recent graduate or with 1 year of experience)
    • Demonstrated experience working with displaced populations, preferably in a refugee camp or Humanitarian Context.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders, including volunteers, interns, university representatives, and community members.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and engagingly.
    • Proficiency in project evaluation techniques, data analysis, and reporting.
    • Creative thinker with a passion for developing innovative solutions to address educational barriers and Challenges.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize.
    • Sensitive to cultural differences and an understanding of the challenges faced by displaced individuals.
    • Proficiency in relevant software applications and digital tools.
