The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating large mining equipment in a surface mining environment. This position supports production, overburden removal, haulage, stockpile management, road maintenance, and other mining activities while adhering to all safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • →Operate mining equipment including haul trucks, dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, water trucks, and other support equipment.
  • →Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections and complete required equipment inspection reports.
  • →Safely transport ore, waste rock, overburden, and other materials throughout the mine site.
  • →Maintain haul roads, access roads, dumps, stockpiles, and work areas.
  • →Load and unload materials efficiently while minimizing equipment wear and damage.
  • →Monitor equipment performance and promptly report mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • →Follow mine plans, production schedules, radio communication protocols, and supervisor instructions.
  • →Assist with drilling, blasting support, reclamation, and earthmoving activities as required.
  • →Adhere to all MSHA regulations, company safety policies, and environmental requirements.
  • →Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • →Maintain accurate production, inspection, and operational records.
  • →Work effectively with dispatchers, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and fellow operators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience; surface mining experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe operating practices for large mobile mining equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mine maps, procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required mine site certifications and site access credentials.
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 Surface Miner Training.
  • Experience operating CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, or similar mining equipment.
  • GPS machine control experience.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working in large-scale aggregate, quarry, copper, coal, gold, or industrial mineral mining operations.
  • Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, steps, and access equipment safely.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, dust, mud, and noise.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work day, night, weekend, holiday, and rotating shifts as required.
  • Surface mining operation with exposure to heavy equipment traffic, dust, vibration, and changing weather conditions.
  • Requires strict adherence to safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • May require overtime and travel between surface mine locations.
