Job Summary: The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)-Sleep Disorders Center (SDC) provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed. 

Education and Experience: Associate's Degree from a two year American Medical Association (AMA) Respiratory Therapy Program as specified by National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Minimum one year of clinical experience in an American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accredited Sleep Disorders Center preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills: Assembly and troubleshooting patient/machine equipment; preventive maintenance; calibration of equipment.  Must be proficient at scoring complete polysomnographic recordings in all age-specific groups. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) required. If Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) ineligible, Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certificate required within eighteen (18) months. If RRT eligible, RRT certificate required within twelve (12) months or RPSGT certificate required within eighteen (18) months. Procession of both RRT and RPSGT certificate preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
