Senior Software Engineer

Lyft Business is one of Lyft’s fastest-growing and most profitable units, providing transportation solutions for organizations – including business travel, employee commutes, courtesy rides, and non-emergency medical trips.  The Product Platform team owns both customer-facing features and the underlying infrastructure that makes them reliable at scale. Our work makes sure organizations of all sizes can pay for trips in ways that work for them and can understand and reconcile how their money is spent.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can lead complex projects – aligning them with team goals, designing performant and maintainable solutions, and collaborating with and supporting teammates to execute successfully. You’ll own key parts of how we set prices, bill customers, process payments, and generate reports and insights about their usage.

Our software engineers are rapidly adopting state-of-the-art development tools powered by generative AI in order to accelerate product development, while establishing processes that ensure we maintain the highest quality and reliability for our customers. You will support the team in this transition, bringing and establishing new ideas and best practices.

• →Drive architecture and technical design for systems that are highly available, scalable, and built to last — not just for today's requirements but for where the product is heading
• →Own features end-to-end: from shaping the technical spec and design through to production rollout and operational health
• →Think critically about how AI capabilities can be incorporated into Lyft Business products to improve the experience for business admins and riders — and bring that perspective into roadmap and architecture conversations
• →Make well-reasoned trade-off decisions and communicate them clearly to peers, leads, and cross-functional partners
• →Help pioneer how we work with AI to write clean, well-tested, and thoroughly reviewed code, while maintaining a fun and empowering culture for the developers
• →Partner across engineering, product, and design to align on direction and get buy-in on technical approaches
• →Proactively engage in incident response, contributing both to resolution and to long-term reliability improvements
• →Grow the team's technical culture through design reviews, tech talks, and mentorship

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of designing and shipping production systems at scale
• University degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience with large-scale, fault-tolerant distributed systems in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Strong system design instincts — you can reason through distributed systems trade-offs, identify failure modes, and choose the right architecture for the problem
• Curiosity and informed opinions about how AI can meaningfully improve product experiences, not just as a workflow tool but as a capability embedded in what we build
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming; experience with the languages and frameworks used in our stack is a plus
• Hands-on experience using generative AI tools to develop software
• Solid foundations in relational and NoSQL databases — data modeling, query optimization, and operational considerations
• Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions in writing, in design reviews, and across teams
