In support of our statewide economic development goals, requiring high quality and engaging PK-12 learning experiences that prepare Maine students for postsecondary education and/or a highly skilled workforce, this position is responsible for ensuring that school leaders and educators understand the benefits of a "Whole Student" approach to education and the importance of interdisciplinary instruction, project-based (and other active, applied teaching and learning practices), and authentic, instructionally embedded assessment, as key levers for student engagement, deeper learning, and equity of access for all students. This position is also responsible for designing and implementing live and asynchronous online professional development plans and provide virtual office hours and technical assistance in these best practices to support school leaders, educators, and curriculum coordinators in the development of literacy, interdisciplinary, project based and/or applied learning units of study, lessons, and activities for Maine students.
This position is responsible for supporting DOE initiatives by providing professional development, technical assistance, and maintaining up-to-date resources on curriculum, instruction, and assessment. It is responsible for planning and implementing regional and statewide events, collaborating across teams, and engaging stakeholders to promote best practices and interdisciplinary learning. The position is also responsible for maintaining visibility through calendars and office hours, highlighting educator expertise, and advancing Whole Student approaches and state priorities.
- Knowledge of current learning research, exemplary general educational practices and PreK-12 interdisciplinary content and
- instructional knowledge.
- Knowledge of community involvement issues in education policy decisions and educational operations.
- Knowledge of school improvement, Maine DOE strategic initiatives, systems-change concepts, student centered practices, and tools to support learning in the area of pre-K-12 interdisciplinary content.
- Knowledge of large scale and formative assessment development and administration.
- Knowledge of current and emerging state and federal legislation, rules and regulations impacting education.
- Knowledge of and experience with Maine's education standards (Learning Results), the process of implementing standards and
- current and emerging trends for PreK-12 interdisciplinary content.
- Knowledge of performance-based and standards-based educational systems.
- Knowledge of systemic change p1inciples.
- Knowledge of effective professional learning design and facilitation for adult learners.
- Knowledge of arts integration, creative learning strategies, and the role of the arts in interdisciplinary instruction OR knowledge of educational leadership practices, including coaching, supervision, and instructional improvement.
- Knowledge of computer software and hardware systems, including networking.
- Knowledge of Total Quality Management concepts, practices and tools and productivity measures.
- Knowledge of documentation strategies.
- Knowledge of alternative assessment, developmental education and experimental learning.
- Ability to facilitate groups and use exemplary interpersonal skills; establish and maintain positive collaborative working relationships; effectively manage multiple projects and provide quality service.
- Ability to integrate PreK-12 interdisciplinary content with other Maine DOE teams such as Workforce Development) Special
- Education, and Federal Programs.
- Ability to assist organizations with systemic change strategies/organizational development.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and use technology for work and learning.
- Ability to write clearly and effectively in a team environment to problem solve.
- Ability to use computer technology for word processing, data applications, telecommunication (email, webinars, faxing) and internet searches.
- Ability to design and implement innovative approaches to school improvement and to student and teacher learning.
- Ability to analyze and interpret research and data and to integrate divergent ideas to solve problems and make decisions.
- Ability to apply and facilitate group dynamics and to use exemplary interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and customer service.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with peers and customers.
Requirements
~1 min readBachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Education, Human Resource Development, Psychology, or a related field and five (5) years of experience as an education practitioner. A Masters Degree in an education related field may be substituted for two (2) years of educational experience.
Professional teaching or educational administration certificate as issued by the State Department of Education.
Experience in integrated literacy classrooms, foundational literacy development, and modeling evidence-based literacy practices for educators. Experience or training in interdisciplinary instruction and/or project-based learning is also preferred, as well as experience in literacy instruction.
