Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Maintain and repair refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, including associated electrical and mechanical controls.
- →Service research support refrigeration equipment such as centrifuges, ice machines, and domestic refrigerators.
- →Capture and store used refrigerants for future use, ensuring compliance with current standards and maintaining appropriate recovery licenses.
- →Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records for MBL equipment, including data entry and service record management.
- →Manage inventory of materials and supplies; order parts (compressors, motors, belts, refrigerants) as needed.
- →Collaborate with other Plant Operations and Maintenance staff to address mechanical needs.
- →Provide technical oversight and guidance to other mechanics regarding HVAC/R systems.
- →Serve as Category I Essential Personnel during emergencies, including storm preparation, facility protection, and restoration of normal operations.
- →Be available for on-call shifts and emergency work as needed.
- →Perform other duties as assigned.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and retrieval from established programs.
- Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS), equipment controllers, thermostats, VFD drives, and other HVAC equipment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently when needed.
- Strong technical reading and writing skills, including the ability to interpret technical manuals and write reports.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification from a recognized authority for refrigerant recovery equipment required.
- Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts HVAC/R Technician or Contractor license required.
Requirements

- This position requires medium work (exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly).
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
- Must be able to work at heights, including on the rooftops of three- and four-story buildings.
- Requires good visual acuity and the ability to operate machinery and perform skilled trades tasks.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, oils, and tight spaces.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in extreme temperatures (below 32°F or above 100°F).
