The Controller is a senior finance leader responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the Company’s financial reporting across property, principal, and subsidiary entities. This role oversees property accounting functions, leads and develops accounting teams, maintains strong internal controls, and serves as a trusted financial partner to executive leadership and operations.
The ideal candidate brings deep real estate accounting expertise, a hands‑on leadership style, strong GAAP knowledge, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment.
This will be an in office position, 5-days per week
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Oversee timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and cash‑basis accounting.
- →Maintain and continuously improve internal accounting controls, financial reporting structures, and chart of accounts to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- →Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and property accounting teams; set clear expectations, manage performance, and ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures.
- →Serve as a strategic accounting and financial partner to leadership and operations, providing sound judgment, insight, and solutions‑oriented support.
- →Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cash management; collaborate with the CFO, Tax, and Treasury on planning, banking, and treasury activities.
- →Safeguard company cash, review and authorize disbursements in accordance with internal controls, and protect the confidentiality of all financial and payroll information.
- →Oversee payroll processes and partner with HR to ensure compliance with federal and multi‑state regulations.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- Minimum 6 years of real estate accounting experience, including property and corporate accounting required
- Minimum 2 years of public accounting experience with a large or mid‑size CPA firm
- At least 5 years of experience leading and managing accounting teams in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and expense analysis
- Experience with Yardi or similar real estate accounting software strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong systems and process orientation with the ability to scale accounting operations
