This research project is an advanced vascular research project in the Dardik laboratory that focuses on arteriovenous fistula (AVF) maturation and examines the role of diabetes during AVF maturation. This project uses human specimens, the mouse aortocaval model, as well as in vitro and computational models.

This project requires scientific laboratory performance at an advanced level requiring advanced molecular skills and analysis such as qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and microsurgery in small animals including husbandry and analysis of different strains of mice (including diabetic mice and knockout mice), as well as imaging techniques including ultrasound and CT scans. Statistical and computational analyses are required. Advanced surgical experience is required to perform both small animal surgery and to participate in large animal surgeries; analysis of human samples (obtained from the operating room) is also required.
