The Special Assistant to the CEO serves as a trusted partner to the CEO and selected Board leadership, helping keep projects, communications, and organizational priorities moving forward. This position requires sound judgment, exceptional discretion, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while representing NC 100 with nonprofit leaders, educators, elected officials, funders, and community partners.
The CEO works across philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, local government, education, and economic development. The Special Assistant serves as a trusted thought partner who helps transform ideas into organized action. This role offers an unusual opportunity to learn firsthand how community partnerships are built—from the first conversation through implementation, while working alongside leaders in philanthropy, education, government, and nonprofit organizations.

What We Offer

Responsibilities
~1 min read Keep projects and people moving by coordinating calendars, preparing materials, documenting decisions, and ensuring commitments become action.
Manage confidential information with discretion.
Assist with grant reporting and project documentation as assigned.
Support Board of Directors meetings and committee work.
Prepare Board meeting packets and supporting materials.
Perform other duties that advance the mission of NC 100.
Project Management (40%)
Coordinate multiple projects across NC 100 initiatives. This includes leading and supporting meeting facilitation.
Develop and maintain project timelines and tracking systems.
Monitor milestones, deliverables, and partner commitments.
Follow up with partners to ensure timely completion of commitments.
Requirements
~1 min read Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent, (preference for 2-year degree or current coursework toward a 2-year degree)
Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously with a strong diligence.
Interest in rural communities, equity, and local leadership
Strong organizational and time management skills, including electronic file management systems like MS Share Point.
Excellent written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and durable communication skills.
Experience planning and coordinating meetings.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to exercise excellent judgment while maintaining confidentiality.
Reliable transportation.
MS Office Suite including Microsoft Excel (Basic to Intermediate proficiency required).
Expertise in using virtual meeting programs like Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams.
Desired Characteristics
Insight into Rockingham County’s assets, needs, and history.
Adept in using Spanish language skills (written and verbal).
Experience working with youth and/or families.
Initiative-taking and solutions oriented.
Experience with project management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Trello, Airtable, or similar platforms.
Committed to community impact and nonprofit service.
