Sr. Systems Engineer Audio & Intercom

Purpose:

The Senior Systems Engineer – Audio & Intercom is responsible for the design, integration, deployment, commissioning, and support of complex audio, intercom, communications, and media systems used in live sports, entertainment, broadcast, and large-scale productions.

This is a hands-on engineering role combining systems design, field engineering, troubleshooting, and client-facing technical leadership. The engineer works across audio, intercom, IP networking, video, RF, fiber, routing, synchronization, and control systems to deliver reliable and scalable production solutions.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

· Design and engineer audio, intercom, communications, and supporting broadcast infrastructure for complex live productions.

· Translate production requirements into system architectures, equipment specifications, signal flows, network requirements, drawings, and deployment plans.

· Configure, integrate, commission, and troubleshoot professional audio consoles, intercom matrices, wireless intercom, DSP, routing, control, and networked-media systems.

· Design systems with appropriate redundancy, resiliency, scalability, and operational simplicity.

· Support IP-based production environments, including network configuration, multicast, VLANs, QoS, synchronization, bandwidth management, and troubleshooting.

· Collaborate with video, network, RF, fiber, replay, control, and other engineering disciplines to ensure end-to-end system performance.

· Lead or support shop builds, system staging, testing, deployment, commissioning, operation, and strike.

· Develop and execute test plans, system validation, redundancy testing, and operational-readiness reviews.

· Serve as a senior technical resource during major live events, providing troubleshooting and escalation support in high-pressure production environments.

· Identify technical risks and single points of failure and recommend appropriate mitigation.

· Direct and mentor engineers and technicians during system deployment and operation when required.

· Work directly with clients, Sales, Operations, vendors, and project teams to define requirements and develop effective technical solutions.

· Maintain accurate system drawings, configuration information, equipment documentation, and as-built records.

· Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to NEP systems, standards, workflows, and engineering practices.

· Provide remote and after-hours technical support when required for active productions.

Position Requirements:

· 8–10+ years of experience in broadcast, live production, systems integration, audio/intercom engineering, or a related technical field.

· Advanced knowledge of professional audio, intercom, communications, and broadcast infrastructure.

· Strong understanding of IP networking and networked media, including VLANs, multicast, QoS, addressing, redundancy, and troubleshooting.

· Strong knowledge of signal flow, routing, synchronization, fiber transport, control systems, and production workflows.

· Demonstrated experience integrating, commissioning, and troubleshooting complex systems in live-production environments.

· Ability to read, create, and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, signal-flow diagrams, and technical documentation.

· Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.

· Excellent client-facing, written, and verbal communication skills.

· Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and collaborate across engineering, operations, sales, production, vendors, and clients.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to travel approximately 60–70%, including extended assignments, nights, weekends, and holidays as production schedules require.

Preferred Technical Experience:

Experience with several of the following is preferred:

· Digital audio consoles and distributed audio systems

· Matrix and wireless intercom systems

· Dante, AES67 and networked audio

· SMPTE ST 2110 and PTP/ST 2059

· Enterprise Ethernet switching and media networking

· Broadcast routing, monitoring, and control systems

· Fiber-optic transport and RF communications

· Remote and distributed-production architectures

· AutoCAD, Visio, VidCAD, or similar engineering documentation tools

Education

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Broadcast, Media Production, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent professional experience, technical training, and demonstrated expertise will be considered.
