If you enjoy working with children 14-17 years of age, then our Outpatient Therapist position may be the right fit for you at our Youth Residential Campus, New Directions. In operation since 1981, New Directions, Inc. provides a full continuum of treatment programming for adolescents struggling with a primary substance abuse disorder, as well as co-occurring mental health concerns. The facility also accepts pregnant adolescents. Located in Pepper Pike, Ohio, the facility provides gender-specific residential programs, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and traditional outpatient programs. New Directions does not provide medical detoxification services on-site.

The Outpatient Therapist provides comprehensive substance use assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and facilitates therapeutic services for adolescents with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. This role supports youth and families through trauma-informed care in an outpatient and IOP setting. This position is responsible for conducting biopsychosocial assessments, risk assessments, and substance use screenings for adolescents, determining appropriate level of care using clinical judgement and standardized tools, coordinate admissions into outpatient or IOP services, collecting information necessary for financial support. This position is also responsible for co-facilitating IOP group therapy sessions, facilitating individual and family therapy sessions, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and coordinating admissions into other levels of care. This licensed mental health provider will engage as a member of a collaborative team. The therapist needs to have evening availability.

More specifically, this therapist role is primarily responsible for the following:

  • Provide trauma informed services to clients and their family system.
  • Provide accurate, concise and concurrent documentation according to program procedures and policies. Including, but not limited to diagnostic assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Provide consultation and collaboration with community partners and clients’ treatment teams. Promote New Directions services and engage in outreach activities.
  • Providing practical skills focused individual therapy. 
  • Makes referrals for clients and/or family members as appropriate.
  • Identifies potential areas for crisis and proactive plans to prevent it.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's preferred
  • CDCA (with hands on clinical experience), LCDCII, LCDC III, LSW or LPC required
  • Experience performing Diagnostic Assessments in a mental health setting
  • Experience in crisis intervention, triage, and knowledge of community resources (preferred)
  • 2 years experience working with adolescents and their families involving addiction and mental health treatment
  • Experience working with parents and legal guardians of the clients in a family counseling setting
  • Must have valid Ohio drivers license, an acceptable driving record (4 points of less), reliable transportation, and carry automobile insurance with minimum liability limits of $100,000/$300,000 and property damage of $50,000
