Working closely with and supporting the Trade Commissioner-Consul General for New Zealand in Vietnam, you will play a crucial role in ensuring timely and effective government support. From day-to-day enquiries through to complex and sensitive cases, you will provide New Zealanders support with confidentiality, confidence and composure.  Working closely with colleagues, local authorities and government stakeholders at all levels, you’ll be instrumental in resolving difficult situations and achieving practical outcomes.  Duties involved are:

  • Providing advice and practical support to New Zealanders in distress, including crisis situations, medical issues, detention, and bereavement.
  • Managing passport, citizenship, and notarial services, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Liaising with police, government agencies, and other consulates to support case outcomes.
  • Supporting New Zealand citizens in detention or prison, and maintaining contact with families.
  • Responding to enquiries via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Maintaining accurate records, case notes and reporting requirements.
  • Contributing to emergency response and contingency planning.
  • Building and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

This role requires flexibility. You may need to respond to urgent situations outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, or public holidays.

We are looking for someone who is capable, reliable and motivated to contribute in a role that requires both professionalism and resilience. You will be comfortable building and maintaining a range of relationships across all levels in local government, the NZ Embassy, Consul–General and Consulates. This role offers a high level of autonomy and responsibility. You will be trusted to use your judgement, manage competing priorities, and identify ways to improve how consular services are delivered over time.  You will bring:

  • Strong English language skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and provide accurate interpretation or translation where needed.
  • The ability to remain calm and effective when dealing with pressure, uncertainty, or emotional situations.
  • Good judgement, with the ability to identify what information is important and act appropriately.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging with a range of stakeholders including government authorities.
  • Flexibility and willingness to respond outside of normal working hours when required.

  • Experience working with government processes or public-facing services.
  • Familiarity with visa, passport or immigration-related knowledge.
  • Understanding of local governmental systems and administrative processes in Vietnam.

NZTE offers a fun and stimulating environment, with a unique opportunity to develop and access world class business networks and work with a talented, diverse international team. If this opportunity sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
