Position Announcement: Student Success Specialist

Northeastern Junior College is seeking a relationship-builder, problem-solver, and student advocate who is passionate about helping students achieve their goals. The ideal candidate for this position is organized, proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. As a Student Success Specialist you will play a vital role in helping college students navigate college, overcome barriers, and achieve their academic and personal goals. You will build meaningful relationships with students and campus partners while developing and implementing strategies that promote access, persistence, retention, and degree completion. The Student Success Specialist is an integral member of the NJC Student Success Team.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Welcome and engage new students by coordinating and facilitating New Student Orientation and developing experiences that help students make a confident and successful transition to college.
  • Provide individualized student support and academic advising through one-on-one meetings, proactive outreach, and ongoing follow-up. You will help students identify goals, navigate challenges, understand available resources, and develop strategies for academic success.
  • Support students who may face barriers to college success, including first-generation, underserved, and other student populations who may benefit from additional guidance and support. You will proactively monitor student progress, identify emerging concerns, and connect students with appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Use data and evidence-based practices to improve student outcomes. Research, evaluate, and implement strategies designed to address achievement gaps and strengthen student persistence, retention, and completion.
  • Build strong partnerships with students and families by developing accessible family outreach materials and resources that promote communication, engagement, and understanding of how families can support student success.
  • Collaborate with the Student Success Team to plan and facilitate registration events, workshops, outreach activities, and other initiatives that help students successfully enroll, persist, and progress toward their educational goals.
  • Strengthening transfer pathways by developing relationships with four-year colleges and universities, coordinating transfer events, and helping students explore transfer opportunities, understanding requirements, developing plans, and navigating the transfer process.
  • Support assessment and placement services through the Testing Center by scheduling, administering, and proctoring a variety of assessments, maintaining accurate records.
  • Track student engagement and outcomes and contribute to reports, program assessments, and continuous improvement efforts that demonstrate the impact of student success initiatives.
  • Serve as a collaborative and student-centered campus resource, working across departments and with external partners to remove barriers, connect students to opportunities, and create a welcoming environment where students feel supported and empowered to succeed.

What We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working directly with high school and/or college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individualized support and build effective one-on-one relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience tracking outcomes, maintaining records, analyzing information, and/or preparing reports.
  • Proficiency with computers and commonly used software applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, community partners, and four-year institutions.

What We Can Offer:

This is a full-time professional appointment. Annual salary is $38,0000-$42,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Competitive fringe benefit package available which includes medical, dental, life, PERA Retirement Plan, 11 paid holidays, and several optional benefits. Position to begin as soon as a qualified candidate is identified.
