We are seeking a highly motivated, animal-loving Senior Director of Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory to join our team and play an integral role in strengthening our culture and values while building and enhancing our food safety, quality, and regulatory programs.
Reporting to the SVP of FSQA & Regulatory, this role is responsible for ensuring the production and delivery of high-quality, safe products that reflect Open Farm’s standards. The Senior Director will have direct oversight of compliance with licensed certification partners (GAP, Certified Humane, OceanWise, etc.), as well as federal, state, and other regulatory requirements across North America and export markets. This role will work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Sales to drive aligned, cross-functional initiatives and consistent execution across the business.
The ideal candidate is ambitious and deeply passionate about quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance. This role is critical to building consumer trust in the Open Farm brand by ensuring products consistently meet the highest safety and quality standards, helping deliver safe, reliable nutrition for pets.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Charting the strategy for building best-in-class FSQA & Regulatory program s
- →Ensuring members of the team across functions are informed and engaged on quality, safety, and regulatory compliance issues impacting our industry.
- →Ensure compliance with regulatory regimes across markets and work closely with co-manufacturers and ingredient suppliers to ensure they employ food safety and quality programs that are acceptable to Open Farm (GMP, HACCP plans, GFSI requirements, SQF certification, etc.) .
- →Oversee regulatory team function including full compliance and maintenance of certifications for all FSQA, sustainability, and impact related third-party certifications and claims, inclusive of packaging and ingredients (Non-GMO, Country of Origin, Raised without Antibiotics, GAP, CH Ocean Wise, Upcycled Association, Terra Cycle etc.) .
- →Support company growth by proactively auditing and onboarding business partners to ensure they meet company standards for food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- →Enhance quality and food safety reporting across the organization. Develop aspirational KPIs and a strong reporting feedback loop, while engaging business partners to create best-in-class products. Assemble and manage the material specifications for the inputs to our products, including animal protein, packaging, and all other ingredients.
- →Create formal Material Approval and Specifications processes with Innovation and R&D to ensure all materials and finished products comply with the Open Farm brand and mission guidelines and standards.
- →Provide subject expertise on labeling requirements and compliance, working closely with Innovation and R&D teams.
- →Working quickly and collaboratively to address food safety, quality, and regulatory issues that arise in the business, whether as a result of manufacturing, ingredient sourcing, or otherwise .
- Strong education, experience, and knowledge of food safety and quality practices and the science behind them.
- Strong interest in the performance of co-manufacturers, suppliers, and the operations and supply chain teams.
- Ability to measure and calculate quality performance and create metrics.
- Ability to build cross-functional teams to correct quality and food safety issues.
- An internal drive to be the best at what we do and perform as a leader within the FSQA/Regulatory team, and the whole of Open Farm.

That’s why we’ve adopted a structured hybrid approach that allows you the benefit of a reduced commute while still building strong workplace relationships. Currently, all employees are expected to be in the office two days per week at minimum, with Tuesday and Thursday as our anchor days. In addition to this, each month our Leadership team dedicates three consecutive days onsite to continue to foster alignment and connection across the team. During this time we expect everyone to join us in person to do the same. Please note: our hybrid approach may evolve over time as we adapt to the needs of our team and business.
