Our client, a leading organisation within the marine engineering and ship repair sector, is seeking a skilled Marine Turner to join their workshop team in Malta.
The successful candidate will be responsible for machining, repairing, and refurbishing mechanical components used onboard vessels and within marine systems. This role is focused on ship repair, maintenance, and refit projects, ensuring all machining work is carried out to precise technical specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Perform turning and machining operations as part of ship repair and refit projects.
- →Repair, refurbish, and manufacture shafts, bushings, flanges, sleeves, bearing housings, and other mechanical components.
- →Operate conventional and/or CNC lathes to produce precision-machined parts.
- →Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and machining instructions.
- →Carry out dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments.
- →Restore worn or damaged components to required tolerances and specifications.
- →Support maintenance and repair teams during vessel refit and overhaul activities.
- →Perform machining work in workshops and, when required, onboard vessels.
- →Ensure compliance with quality standards and health & safety procedures.
- →Maintain machines, tools, and workshop equipment in good working condition.
Requirements
~1 min read- Proven experience as a Turner, Machinist, or Lathe Operator in marine, industrial, or heavy engineering environments.
- Experience in mechanical repair and maintenance activities.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Strong understanding of machining processes and dimensional tolerances.
- Knowledge of shipyard safety procedures and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
