We are seeking an experienced In-Shop Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair our fleet of heavy trucks, digger derricks, bucket trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment used in powerline construction and maintenance. This role is primarily shop-based, performing scheduled maintenance, repairs, and inspections to keep our fleet safe and job-ready. Candidates with hands-on knowledge of the powerline/utility construction industry are strongly preferred, though not required.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel and gas-powered trucks, digger derricks, bucket trucks, cranes, and trailers
- →Inspect and maintain hydraulic systems, aerial/bucket lift mechanisms, PTOs, outriggers, and other utility-specific equipment
- →Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and manufacturer software
- →Perform scheduled and unscheduled repairs, overhauls, and component replacements in the shop
- →Conduct DOT inspections and ensure fleet compliance with federal and state regulations
- →Maintain accurate service records, parts usage logs, and repair documentation
- →Keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
- →Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout and proper PPE use
Requirements

- 2+ years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic, or equivalent technical training/certification
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and heavy truck electrical systems
- Ability to read and follow technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic reports
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop environment, including standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred (not required):
- Experience working on digger derricks, bucket trucks, or other powerline/utility construction equipment
- Familiarity with the powerline or utility construction industry and its equipment demands
- CDL license
- ASE certifications (Diesel, Hydraulics, Electrical)
- Experience with DOT inspection requirements
