Position Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Field Engineer to support the Resident Engineer with day-to-day field and office activities throughout the construction lifecycle. In this role, you will assist with reviewing Construction Work Plans (CWPs), monitoring construction activities, documenting project progress through field reports and photographs, attending project meetings and preparing meeting minutes, and providing technical and administrative support to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements.

The Field Engineer I will perform routine site observations, assist with quality assurance and construction documentation, coordinate with contractors and project stakeholders, and help track project activities while gaining hands-on experience in construction management and engineering oversight. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop field engineering and project management skills while supporting large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Supports the Resident Engineer with day-to-day field and office activities throughout construction and project closeout.
  • Reviews Construction Work Plans (CWPs) and assists with tracking approvals, revisions, and implementation.
  • Monitors daily construction activities and documents field observations, contractor progress, manpower, site conditions, and project milestones.
  • Captures and organizes construction progress photographs and maintains accurate project documentation.
  • Attends project meetings, prepares meeting minutes, tracks action items, and distributes documentation to project team members.
  • Assists project managers and senior engineers with project coordination, schedule updates, and tracking project deliverables.
  • Coordinates architect, engineer, contractor, and third-party inspection activities while maintaining organized project records.
  • Documents quality assurance observations and reports potential construction, safety, or schedule concerns to the Resident Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Assists with coordinating testing agencies, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders to support field operations.
  • Supports contract administration by maintaining communication logs, tracking project correspondence, and assisting with documentation of contractor activities.
  • Communicates professionally with clients, contractors, consultants, and project team members to support successful project execution.
  • Learns from and supports senior team members, with a focus on gaining exposure to project management, field engineering, and construction oversight practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0+ years of experience working as a Construction Engineer, Field Engineer, Engineering Intern, or in a related construction management or engineering support role.
  • Basic understanding of construction practices, field engineering principles, and construction safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, Construction Work Plans (CWPs), and other technical documents.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation, daily reports, meeting minutes, progress tracking, and project recordkeeping.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented mindset for tracking project activities, quality assurance issues, and field documentation.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite; basic knowledge of construction management or document control software is a plus.
  • Additional Requirements
     
    Physical: Standing or sitting for long periods; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times and spend extended hours in front of a computer screen.
     
    Cognitive: Problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; computer and software skills; and ability to read and interpret text online or in printed form.
