We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join an Adult Acute team in South Wales on a locum basis. This exciting opportunity involves working across inpatient services, supporting adults with a range of communication and swallowing difficulties arising from acute medical conditions.
This role is suitable for an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist looking to broaden their acute experience or a Band 7 clinician seeking a flexible locum opportunity within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. You will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with complex speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs, helping to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults presenting with communication and swallowing disorders within acute inpatient services.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with dysphagia, acquired communication disorders, cognitive-communication difficulties, and neurological conditions.
• Undertake comprehensive swallowing assessments and provide appropriate management plans to support safe nutrition and hydration.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical staff, nursing teams, dietitians, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists.
• Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and discharge planning meetings.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
• Provide advice, education, and support to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals.
• Contribute to service development initiatives and support junior colleagues where appropriate.

• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
• Current HCPC registration.
• Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
• Previous experience working within adult acute inpatient services.
• Experience managing patients with dysphagia and complex communication needs.
• Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
