Job Title: Paediatric Special School Speech and Language Therapist
Contract: Permanent
Banding: Band 6 / 7
Location: West Yorkshire
Salary: £37,602 – £45,426 per annum (dependent on experience)
Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time considered


We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist school in West Yorkshire, supporting children and young people with complex learning needs, social and emotional difficulties, and challenging behaviours.

The school provides a highly supportive and specialist educational environment for pupils aged 8 to 17 years. It caters to a diverse cohort of learners with a wide range of needs, offering tailored education and therapeutic support to help pupils achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.

This role is suitable for a Band 6 therapist looking to further develop their specialist skills, or a Band 7 therapist seeking a more senior or leadership-focused position. You will play a vital role in assessing, diagnosing, and delivering high-quality speech and language interventions, working closely with education and clinical colleagues to support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.


Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and support children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) alongside complex learning needs and social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.

  • Design and deliver individualised therapy programmes tailored to each pupil’s needs.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families, and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

  • Provide advice, strategies, and training to school staff to support communication across the curriculum.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.

  • Contribute to reviews, EHCP processes, and multi-disciplinary meetings.

  • For Band 7 applicants: offer clinical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to junior colleagues where appropriate.


Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex needs, ideally within a special school or similar setting.

  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • A flexible, reflective, and proactive approach to clinical practice and professional development.
