ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Tax Specialist prepares and reviews tax returns, supports tax planning, and serves as a trusted resource for clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical tax work and building lasting client relationships, and who wants a long-term career path with real opportunities for advancement.

SCHEDULE:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, in office. Extended hours and some weekends may be needed during the busy season. Some overtime throughout the year is required.

BENEFITS:

  • Salary range of $70,000-$85,000, based on experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and estates.
  • Assist with tax planning, projections, and year-round advisory support for individual and business clients.
  • Build and maintain hands-on client relationships, serving as a direct point of contact for questions and guidance.
  • Gather and review client documents, identify missing information, and follow up to keep engagements on schedule.
  • Research tax issues, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with current tax laws and regulations.
  • Respond to IRS and state tax notices and correspondence on behalf of clients.
  • Support bookkeeping, year-end close, and financial reporting for clients as needed.
  • Track filing deadlines, extensions, and estimated payments.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and share knowledge with the team.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to improving firm processes.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Success in this role takes someone who is detail-oriented, client-focused, and motivated to keep learning and growing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • 2+ years of tax preparation experience, ideally in a public accounting or tax firm environment.
  • CPA, EA, or CPA exam-ready candidates are a plus. We support team members pursuing certification.
  • 1040 and Trust expense experience is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of individual and business taxation.
  • Experience with tax preparation software and QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain tax matters clearly to clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative, team-first attitude.
  • Ability to work extended hours during the busy season.
