Staff Software Engineer - Workflows Platform

The Automation Platform team is building the next generation of automation products and infrastructure at Rippling. We own Workflow Studio, our Triggers system and the underlying execution platform used by customers and product teams across the company. The platform lets users build visually, write custom code when they need more control, or use AI agents that translate goals into executable workflows. Rippling is uniquely positioned to do this because it combines the Employee Graph—our source of truth for employee data—with integrations across the systems companies use to run their businesses. Together, this data, connectivity, and execution layer position Rippling to become the central hub for automating work across HR, IT, Finance, and third-party applications. You will design reliable and explainable systems for hybrid workflows containing deterministic code and non-deterministic AI, along with reusable primitives that let other teams build sophisticated automations without recreating the underlying infrastructure. We are looking for a seasoned engineer who enjoys complex systems, thoughtful architectural tradeoffs, and building foundational technology with broad product impact.

• →Develop high quality software with attention to detail
• →Ship incrementally and continually at high velocity
• →Jump into different and new codebases and diagnose issues and problems quickly
• →Build for systems that scale for a large variety of use cases
• →Tackle large scaling challenges that involve scaling our capabilities to support 100,000+ employee companies
• →Work highly cross functionally with engineering leaders across the engineering org
• →Become the in-house expert on Rippling customers and competition

• 7+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems, such as high-volume SaaS environments
• Preferred experience in building out large scale product infrastructures/platforms
• Preferred experience in our technology stack and similar technologies - Python, Golang, React, MongoDB, Temporal, Kafka, AWS
• Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment by identifying areas of impact and independently pursuing them
• A track record of influencing and enabling forward-thinking technology decisions across a wide organization
• Excellent ability to communicate complex technical ideas with clarity and precision in written and verbal modes
