Road & Rail Services is seeking an experienced Track Services Site Manager to lead our railroad track operations in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing employees, coordinating daily maintenance activities, maintaining a strong safety culture, and ensuring track work is completed efficiently and according to customer and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate has experience in railroad track maintenance, track construction, heavy equipment operations, or a related industrial environment and understands what it takes to lead employees in the field.
This is not strictly an office management position. The Site Manager must be comfortable working alongside the operation, evaluating job progress, solving problems, and providing direction to track workers and equipment operators.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs the Track Services Site Manager, you will be responsible for the overall performance of the assigned operation. Responsibilities include:
Direct daily railroad track maintenance and repair activities
Lead, coach, train, and develop track workers and equipment operators
Plan daily work assignments and coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials
Monitor job progress, productivity, quality, and completion timelines
Ensure track work meets company, customer, and applicable railroad requirements
Oversee the safe operation of track maintenance machinery and heavy equipment
Support work involving rail cutting, material handling, track alignment, and other track maintenance activities
Conduct regular safety meetings and job briefings
Identify workplace hazards and take corrective action
Maintain compliance with applicable FRA, OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements
Reinforce company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and customer expectations
Assist with employee training and performance management
Communicate operational needs, challenges, and project status to upper management
Respond to operational issues and emergency situations when required
Maintain a professional working relationship with customers and employees

Requirements

Previous supervisory or management experience
Knowledge of railroad track maintenance practices and equipment
Experience working around or operating heavy equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Ability to train, coach, and hold employees accountable
Strong communication and organizational skills
Valid driver's license
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Availability for on-call, weekend, and after-hours responsibilities when operational needs require

This position works in an active railroad environment and requires regular outdoor work in changing weather conditions. The Site Manager must be comfortable around railroad tracks, moving equipment, machinery, uneven terrain, and physically demanding work environments.
Rail operations may require flexibility outside normal business hours. Candidates should be prepared to respond to weekend, after-hours, and emergency operational needs when necessary.
