Staff Product Manager
Quick Summary
recurring bookings, multi-shift blocks, durable hospital relationships, and the calendar and earnings tooling that makes Roo their default rather than one of several apps.
We’re on a mission to empower animal healthcare professionals with opportunities to earn more and achieve greater flexibility in their careers and personal lives.
Powered by groundbreaking technology, Roo has built the industry-leading veterinary staffing platform, connecting Veterinarians, Technicians, and Assistants with animal hospitals for relief work and hiring opportunities. Roo empowers the largest network of over 20,000 veterinary professionals to help more than 9,000 animal hospitals provide quality care to more pets.
Together, we’ve provided more than 3 million hours of healthcare, helping Veterinarians earn more than $200 million.
As a Staff Product Manager at Roo, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving company-wide impact by leading high-priority initiatives that map directly to our most critical business goals. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams—including engineering, design, data, marketing, operations, and more—to define strategy, align stakeholders, and deliver measurable outcomes. You’ll set the vision, define the north-star metric, establish clear success criteria, and ensure we’re executing with focus and speed.
Your north-star metric will be directly tied to the “Roo Equation,” our guiding business model, ensuring your impact is visible and meaningful. Operating with significant autonomy, you’ll take a growth-minded, iterative approach—identifying leverage points, shipping improvements quickly, and building scalable systems for our customers and internal users.
This role reports to the VP of Product. While the position is remote, occasional travel to our San Francisco co-working space for key meetings and team events is expected.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Own the path from sign-up to first shift which includes identity and license verification, the approval decision, first-run experience, and the flow from browsing to requesting to working. Decide what gets automated and what stays human.
- →Build the product for high-volume relief vets: recurring bookings, multi-shift blocks, durable hospital relationships, and the calendar and earnings tooling that makes Roo their default rather than one of several apps.
- →Turn promotions and incentives from operator-run levers into product such as targeting, automation and guardrails that decide where a dollar goes.
- →Partner with the BU's growth marketer as a pair, not a handoff: shared conversion targets, joint experiments, and a standing argument about where the bottleneck actually is.
- →Fix the instrumentation before the roadmap. Work with the BU analyst on cohort definitions, attribution and holdouts so we ship what we can prove.
- →Co-own the BU strategy with the GM to help decide what we do and don't do, carry the product half, and say out loud when a committed lever isn't working.
- →Keep one marketplace. Your decisions land on hospital screens too; partner with the PMs in the other BUs so users get one product, not our org chart.
- →Communicate strategy, progress and learnings clearly to leadership and across BUs.
Requirements
~2 min read- Marketplace experience or commerce depth. 5+ years working on supply, demand, or core marketplace teams. Ideally in high-growth environments. Strong commerce or consumer-platform backgrounds with equivalent funnel depth are welcome.
- Funnel depth. You've owned real surfaces across the funnel (e.g. search, recommendations, acquisition, onboarding, activation, retention) and you know where the leverage sits in each.
- Commercial fluency. You're comfortable in the unit economics of a business (take rate, price, contribution margin, payback, etc) and can hold your own in a conversation about margin, not just engagement.
- Proven impact. A strong track record of delivering measurable results for both users and the business across multiple teams or initiatives.
- Exceptional communication. You craft strategic narratives in writing and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Systems thinking. You balance big-picture thinking with operational precision, designing experiments, scalable systems, and impactful features.
- AI fluency. You know how to leverage AI to accelerate you and your teams while always taking ownership over the output.
- Influential leadership. You inspire alignment across teams and functions, driving progress even without formal authority. People seek your input and want to partner with you.
- User-centered mindset. You deeply understand customer needs and behavior, advocate for best-in-class UX, and prototype to bring ideas to life.
- Startup-ready. You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, know how to create clarity from chaos, and are energized by building from zero-to-one.
