Scope of Work: Responsible for all aspects of students’ classroom experience in After School


Experience Requirements:

  • Teaching experience with children in a school or camp setting
  • Understanding of multi-age learning environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectives


Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent credits toward a Bachelor's Degree (not required for Assistant Teacher)
  • Clear CORI and MA fingerprinting
  • Previous work with children preferred


General Responsibilities:

The After School Teacher is responsible for providing an inviting and safe Extended Day program experience using a full array of sports equipment, games and craft supplies.  She/he also ensures that students have good choices for activities each day. Hours are Monday-Friday 2:30pm-5:45pm. For the 26-27 school year.


Specific Responsibilities:

Educational Program & Student Services:

  • Lead engaging hands-on lessons in collaboration with other Extended Day Teachers and the Administrative Coordinator
  • Prepare an environment in which furnishings, materials, and activities are developmentally appropriate and correspond to the needs of the children 
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each student by creating a safe and engaging classroom
  • Set clear expectations for responsibilities and routines
  • Recognize when students are not participating as expected and communicate this to the Assistant Head of School for collaboration and follow-up
  • Answer door and instruct parents where their child is during pick up
  • Answer after school phone if parent phone calls come in regarding late pick up, etc.
  • Double check building to ensure building is locked and secured for the evening
  • Train and supervise children regarding emergency practices such as fire drills

Constituent Relations:

  • Build productive relationships with parents through positive communication
  • Build collaborative relationships with other faculty and administrative staff

Administration:

  • Monitor student attendance by collecting attendance rosters and communicating attendance issues with the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
  • Learn FACTS SIS and other software the school uses to hold student information.
  • Work collaboratively with administration to address concerns regarding  students, parents and staff
  • Report all accidents/ incidents to administration and complete accident forms as needed
  • Attend all mandatory events

Professional Development

  • Attend in-service training as provided by Riverbend School

Other

  • Take on duties as assigned
