Mechanical Engineer

Sayres is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with an active SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Mobile, AL.

Responsibilities:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team, providing SME expertise for technical and engineering efforts on the assigned Hull (e.g. T-AGOS, T-AO, T-ATS, T-AOL, T-ARC, Service Craft). Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

• Supporting concept studies, feasibility studies, preliminary design, contract design, detail design, construction activities, independent design reviews, and shipboard installation.
• Contribute to special studies related to ships, boats, craft, ship systems, and shipboard equipment.

• Offer comprehensive mechanical engineering and technical support throughout the shipbuilding process, ensuring the successful execution of concept studies, feasibility studies, and preliminary design activities with a focus on mechanical systems and equipment.
• Collaborate on contract design activities and detail design and construction activities, leveraging your mechanical engineering expertise to optimize ship systems' performance and functionality.
• Conduct independent design reviews, meticulously assessing mechanical components and systems to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical expertise for in-service ship design and engineering activities, contributing to the continuous improvement and efficiency of mechanical systems.
• Offer essential support during shipboard installation, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of mechanical components and equipment.
• Participate in special studies, conducting thorough analyses and providing valuable insights to enhance shipbuilding processes and mechanical designs.

• Conduct advanced mechanical analysis and simulations to optimize the design and performance of ship systems and equipment.
• Perform mechanical tests and evaluations to validate the reliability and functionality of mechanical components.

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements:

Minimum Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• No less than seven (7) years of design experience in development of work packages, in-service modifications, detail design drawings and analysis, implementation of ABS and military specifications and requirements, 3D modeling, and/or ship system integration. Experience shall be specific to ship design and construction.
• Capable of augmenting mechanical systems design development down to the component level against requirements of the system specification, ABS, and vendor requirements.
• Understand the impact of system interfaces on other functional areas and be capable of identifying and communicating those impacts the other areas of the Gov't design team and shipbuilder within the product development.
• Capable of in-depth evaluation of the systems functionality, arrangement within the 3D environment, and performance, using tools such as Autodesk Navisworks applications, PIPE-FLO software, 2D dwg files, hand calcs, and prescriptive equations and standards.
• Possess a high degree of knowledge for the control and monitoring of systems through machinery control, alarm, and monitoring systems.
• Experience in the conduct and development of a failure mode analysis (FMEA), including for Dynamic positioning and ABS redundancy requirements
• Active Secret Clearance verifiable in DISS/JPAS.

Preferred Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer License, showcasing your commitment to excellence in mechanical engineering.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000.00 to $130,000.00 per year. Actual compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, geographic location, work arrangement, and other relevant factors. This range reflects the anticipated compensation for the position at the time of posting and may be adjusted as business needs or market conditions change.
