This role supports the development, acquisition, and production of print and digital resources for educators, focusing on research-based approaches to teaching reading and writing, classroom management, and student well-being.

The Executive Editor works closely with authors, editorial directors, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality professional books and supporting materials that meet educator needs and drive strong sales. This position offers significant growth opportunities, with the expectation that the successful candidate will develop toward an Editorial Director role over time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with authors through all stages of manuscript development—from early drafts through revision—to help communicate ideas effectively.

  • Provide hands-on editorial guidance, particularly when authors are refining complex ideas or instructional frameworks.

  • Collaborate with editorial directors to ensure editorial strategies align with market trends and organizational goals.

  • Participate in acquisition efforts, identifying and developing approximately 6-8 professional titles annually in collaboration with editorial directors.

  • Generate extension ideas for acquired books (e.g., bundles, professional development offerings, curriculum alignment).

  • Assist in identifying and recruiting high-potential authors who can produce impactful titles.

  • Contribute to conceptualizing new professional book series based on education trends, market research, and author insights.

  • Support the refinement and expansion of successful professional book series, ensuring content is evidence-based and educator-focused.

  • Assist in cultivating author relationships and supporting brand development under guidance from editorial directors.

  • Evaluate existing backlist titles and provide input on updates or sunsetting decisions.

  • Work collaboratively with editorial colleagues and cross-functional teams to ensure timely, on-budget delivery of high-quality products.

  • Oversee freelancers and junior staff on select projects.
