POSITION PURPOSE
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of all hatchery equipment and facility systems. This position leads the Maintenance team, manages preventive and corrective maintenance, and works closely with hatchery leadership to ensure equipment is reliable and operations run efficiently.

The Maintenance Manager will also support the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment and facility systems. This includes coordinating with vendors, contractors, and internal teams and helping ensure new equipment is properly installed, tested, maintained, and incorporated into the hatchery’s long-term maintenance program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead, train, and supervise maintenance employees. Assign work and ensure responsibilities are clearly defined.
Monitor employee performance, provide coaching and direction, and manage employee time and skills to support hatchery operations.
Build and maintain a productive, safety-focused maintenance team.
Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program for hatchery equipment and facility systems.
Monitor incubators, hatchers, ventilation, environmental controls, water systems, electrical systems, automation, and other equipment.
Conduct regular inspections and work with department leads to identify potential equipment or maintenance issues.
Prioritize and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment as needed.
Coordinate outside repairs and specialized maintenance when necessary.
Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a safe and functional condition.
Support the installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
Work with vendors and contractors during equipment installation and startup.
Ensure new equipment is incorporated into the preventive maintenance program.
Maintain an adequate inventory of maintenance parts and supplies and order materials as needed.
Monitor maintenance expenses and evaluate repair or replacement options to support cost-effective maintenance.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment and conduct routine safety checks.
Follow company policies and requirements related to biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.
Ensure Maintenance employees follow safety procedures and maintain required training and certifications, including forklift certification.
Coordinate required equipment and safety training with qualified personnel.
Work closely with hatchery management and department leads to support efficient hatchery operations.
Assist with operational or equipment needs as necessary.
Understand how equipment performance and environmental conditions affect hatchability, poult quality, and production.
Be available to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or other hours as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Hatchery Manager.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Lead and supervise the Maintenance team and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of hatchery equipment and facility systems.
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
Support the installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and hatchery leadership to support maintenance and equipment needs.
Maintain a safe working environment and ensure required safety, training, and certification requirements are met.
Manage maintenance parts, supplies, and expenses to support cost-effective operations.
Support hatchery operations by ensuring equipment and facility systems are reliable and maintained to meet production needs.

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical training or certification in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or a related field preferred.
5 or more years of experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance required.
5 or more years of experience leading or managing employees required.
Experience in hatchery, poultry, manufacturing, or similar production environment preferred.
Valid driver’s license required.
Forklift certification is a plus and can also be obtained internally through company training.
Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills is a plus.
Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
Knowledge of hatchery equipment and maintenance practices.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, automation, and facility systems.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
Must have good business judgement, make quick decisions, and work effectively under pressure.
Ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, contractors, and hatchery leadership.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment, learn new technology, and use a variety of tools and equipment
