BIM Modeler (6-Month Contract)
- Location: Remote (Offshore — Open to talent in LATAM, the Philippines, or South Africa)
- Hours: Full-Time (40 Hours per Week), structured with daily synchronous overlap with US Central Standard Time (CST)
- Duration: 6-Month Contract (Project-Based, focused on modeling execution)
We are a premier, large-scale commercial electrical contracting firm specializing in comprehensive, design-build electrical installations. Over 95% of our portfolio is dedicated to commercial and industrial projects, including corporate office build-outs, industrial warehouses, and high-end residential complexes. We manage the entire lifecycle of electrical infrastructure, from initial engineering and virtual design to field installation.
We have recently been awarded a data center project in downtown Chicago. Data center infrastructure requires a dense, precise, and sophisticated network of electrical layouts and conduit routing. To manage this massive volume, our project leadership is divided into three distinct Project Manager (PM) tracks led by our lead PM. We are partnering with Somewhere to hire an elite, remote BIM Modeler for a dedicated 6-month contract to serve as the production powerhouse for our 3D electrical assets.
The 3D modeling demands for this data center project are intense and time-consuming. Because our Project Managers completely own the coordination, client meetings, and high-level clash-resolution pieces, we need a dedicated, technical BIM Modeler who can focus purely on rapid, accurate asset production and model detailing.
Reporting directly to our BIM Coordinator, your primary mission is to keep up with the heavy modeling volume. You will take engineering drafts, sketches, and schematics and translate them into data-rich 3D electrical models within Revit. This role is ideal for a high-output modeler who loves diving deep into software execution, drafting precise electrical conduit routes including supports, and extracting construction documents for our field crew.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Model Generation: Author, update, and modify highly accurate, data-rich 3D models focusing heavily on electrical containment, conduit routing, conduit supports, hangers, hanging systems, secondary support steel, cable trays, and equipment layouts according to strict data center project specifications and Level of Development (LOD) standards.
- PM Technical Support: Act as the central drafting engine supporting our BIM Coordinator. Rapidly execute model updates, input layout adjustments, and implement design revisions passed down by the PM tracks.
- Component Creation: Build and modify parametric Revit families for specialized electrical equipment and hardware as required by the project specifications.
- Shop Drawings: Extract precise, clean 2D construction documents, shop drawings, section details, and isometric layouts directly from the master 3D model.
- Field Readiness: Ensure all extracted drawings have flawless annotations, dimensions, and clear notes so our Chicago field installation teams can build from them with zero ambiguity.
- System Organization: Enforce strict file structure, family naming conventions, and parameter consistency within the shared Common Data Environment (CDE) / BIM 360 platform / Forma.
- Discrepancy Flagging: Review basic contract drawings while modeling to catch and flag obvious dimensional mismatches or routing gaps, passing them directly to the PMs to handle.
Requirements
~1 min read- 3 to 5+ years of active experience working strictly as a BIM Modeler or Revit Technician, with a heavy emphasis on commercial electrical drafting. (Prior experience modeling data centers or heavy industrial warehouse infrastructure is a plus).
- Expert Revit Fluency: Advanced, daily proficiency utilizing Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. Heavy comfort working within cloud environments like BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud / Forma.
- High Output & Precision: Ability to manage a high volume of modeling tasks simultaneously across three separate PM tracks without letting detail, naming conventions, or model accuracy slip.
- Strong English Communication: Clear written and verbal English skills to collaborate smoothly with our US-based project management team.
- CST Time Zone Alignment: Complete availability to maintain regular working hours matching the US Central Time zone to ensure rapid turnarounds on model updates during the Chicago team's active workday.
- Contract Commitment: Absolute availability to commit to a rigorous, fast-paced 6-month project timeline.
