The Highway Construction Estimator position is responsible for the estimation of the entire project, including reviewing bid documents and specifications, creating take-offs, quantifying, and qualifying material quantities and prices for a precise and accurate bid proposal.

✓Review new projects posted for bidding
✓Generate and develop bids, leads via electronic and printed sources
✓Perform accurate take-off of blueprints to confirm quantities
✓Job site inspections for estimates and bids when warranted
✓Organize and prepare pre-bid packages: secure plans, specifications, addendums, etc.
✓Review bid specifications/blueprints to prepare bid package requirements
✓Attending bid openings and pre-construction meetings when warranted
✓Maintain relations with all vendors, clients, engineers, architects, owners, etc.
✓Communicate bid information to Senior Project Manager
✓Obtains pricing for materials
✓Obtains bids from subcontractors
✓5+ years’ experience with a significant General Contractor employer in the heavy construction industry
✓Applicants should have experience, in and an understanding of, the estimating process on medium to large size projects
✓Experience with Public works projects involving prevailing wage work within city, county and state agencies
✓Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and project management software
✓Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget
✓Leadership and team management skills to guide project teams effectively
✓Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
✓Excellent communication and negotiation skills with clients, vendors, and stakeholders
✓Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
✓In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, and construction best practices
✓Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze budgets, costs, and project profitability
✓Vocational or apprenticeship training supplemented with 3-5 years of construction leadership experience, or equivalent
✓Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Construction Management or combination of experience and education
✓Work in both office and field settings, requiring adaptability to various conditions
✓Regular travel to and from job sites <10% of the time
✓Combination of office and fieldwork, requiring adaptability to various environments and conditions
