About the Role
~1 min readThe Senior Art Director is responsible for developing and executing high-quality visual work across various pharmaceutical, biotech and other healthcare communications programs. This role brings strong design and art direction skills, sound creative judgment, and a practical understanding of how to translate strategy and creative direction into compelling work across channels. The Senior Art Director is a dependable, hands-on creative who can take a clear brief or creative direction and turn it into thoughtful, polished, audience-appropriate work. While not primarily responsible for defining the overarching creative platform or “big idea,” this role contributes to the creative process through visual thinking, concept development, and strong execution. The ideal candidate combines excellent craft with reliability, collaboration, and an understanding of the unique requirements of pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare communications.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Develop and execute high-quality visual concepts and creative deliverables across pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare communications programs, including digital, social, print, presentation, event, and branded materials.
- →Translate creative briefs, strategic direction, and established concepts into polished, audience-appropriate work that supports client objectives, reflects brand guidelines, and communicates clearly across channels.
- →Contribute visual ideas, design thinking, and creative solutions during brainstorming, concept development, and execution, helping shape strong creative work while building from the overall creative direction.
- →Apply strong design craft across typography, layout, imagery, composition, visual storytelling, and brand expression to ensure deliverables are visually compelling, cohesive, and professionally finished.
- →Create work that makes complex healthcare, scientific, and clinical information more engaging, accessible, and easy to understand while accounting for the requirements of regulated healthcare communications.
- →Partner effectively with client services, creative, strategy, medical/scientific, and other cross-functional teams to gather input, refine concepts, address feedback, and move work forward efficiently.
- →Present and discuss creative work clearly, explaining design choices, responding thoughtfully to feedback, and recommending practical solutions that strengthen the final deliverable.
- →Manage assigned deliverables from concept through final production, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining quality, accuracy, organization, and strong attention to detail.
Requirements
~3 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Art Direction, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred.
- 4+ years of professional creative experience, ideally within an agency, healthcare communications, advertising, or integrated marketing environment.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellent art direction, design craft, visual storytelling, and execution across multiple channels.
- Experience developing creative for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or other regulated industries strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout, composition, imagery, branding, and digital design.
- Ability to translate a brief and creative direction into high-quality work with appropriate independence.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering polished work.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under deadlines.
- Proficiency with relevant creative and design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite and presentation/design software.
The anticipated salary range for this position will be $80,000-$115,000. Salary is based on job-related factors such as: years of relevant experience, qualifications and/or certifications. Spectrum reserves the right to modify this pay range at any given time.
