INTRODUCTION: 


This position is located on the Spokane Indian Reservation within the Fire and Fuels Management organizations. This position is an advanced level wildland firefighter functioning as an experienced, supervisory leader of hand crews, engine crews, or fuels crews performing wildland fire preparedness, suppression, and fuels management duties in adverse climate, fuels, and terrain conditions. This is an arduous position and subject to medical screening and physical fitness testing.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQURIED:

 

  • Knowledge of advanced fire program requirements, strategies, tactics, and suppression methods used in containment and control of wildland fires in order to relay assignments to subordinate staff, accurately evaluate rapidly changing fire circumstances, determine when/if additional resources may be needed, or determine when circumstances warrant withdrawal of crew to safe location.
  • Ability to perform duties under stressful and adverse operating conditions, such as long work hours, heavy workloads, emergency situations, adverse working and environmental conditions.
  • Working knowledge of advanced fire behavior including causes of fire, influence of temperature, humidity, wind, topography, slope and fuel moisture conditions, and fuels in order to know where to attack the fire, build fire line, where to be positioned to manage a wildland fire, and where to locate fuels treatments to reduce wildland fire risk.
  • Advanced knowledge of agency and interagency qualification, position task book requirements, and certification standard and procedures adopted by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group.
  • Advanced computer skills and familiarity with various computer applications and software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tribal Email, and Tribal Fire Timesheets, and Arc GIS Working knowledge of basic fire behavior, hazards and accepted fire safety practices and procedures to prevent injury and loss of life.
  • Ability to perform duties under stressful and adverse operating conditions, such as long work hours, heavy workloads, emergency situations, adverse working and environmental conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of agency and interagency qualification, position task book requirements and certification standards and procedures adopted by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must have a valid Washington state driver’s license and be Tribally insurable.
  • Must maintain Red Card at a minimum ENGB.
  • Must be annually certified for arduous duty through the NWCG Medical Standards Program and Work Capacity test.
  • In addition to all required training for FFTI and FFT2, the following NWCG courses will serve as guidance for meeting full certification of ENGB.
  • This is a senior level position requiring the individual to have extensive knowledge of fire and the use of fire engines. In addition to the required certifications for a fire fighter 1, the individual must also have the required certifications:
